Hi there, I'm thinking about coming back to the world of Mustangs. I used to have a 96GT and sold and it got a 00 Jetta because I needed something I could drive year round and that was good on gas. Good car but very slow and lately have been running into some reliability problems. If I get a Mustang I'd probably get a 2002-2004 V6. What has the reliability been like on these? Gas mileage? Was traction control an option or standard? What mods to people do to the V6's and what gains are seen. 0-60 times? Any other info is appreciated. Thanks!!
Why not get atleast a GT... Probably can find a nice one and atleast you'll have a 4.6 sohc instead of a 6...
Traction control is not standard nor is it an option. Typical mods I am familiar with are true duals, CAI, flash tune (particularly for automatics), and rear gears (along with a Traction-Lok differential). Nice cars after just those mods; I would gladly drive one.
After having a GT previously I would definately rather an 8 cyl than a 6. But other things I need to consider are increased gas usage with the 8 and I need something that would be decent in the winter (6 should be better than an 8)
I have owned a few mustangs myself and my 99 v6 got roughly the same gas mileage as my 96gt to tell you the truth..its a smaller motor yes but it is still pulling alot of weight...as for winter driving the v6 is not positive traction so you would have to modify it where as a GT is posi trac
I have dreven several v8 cars through snow and blizzards, dont be skeered btw, my wife picked up a vw, I knowq what kind of maintanece nightmare they can be. every penny I save in mpg over driving the mustang I pay back at the parts counter.
My bad, T/C is standard on models with the optional premium package (does that make it optional?). The rear gears do not come with a T-Lok differential, standard or as an option.
does the premium package include the interior upgrade? I've got the package, have the traction control, sway bars etc. yet still have the ****ty cloth interior with the crappy seats. Wasn't that part of the deal?
V6s require 87, not premium. At least that's what I was told about ford engines and that's what it says in the handbook.
A lot of people prefer NOT to have t-lok on snow/ice cause with it your back end will tend to slide all over the place. If both of your tires are on ice you are kinda worse off with one, but its an opinion thing. Its not too hard to get a '99+ v6 to outrun a '94-8 v8. Its the '94-8 v6's that take some work
Is there somewhere online I can view a brochure of the 01-04 Mustangs? Just to see the different options that were available etc...
