It's been my experience ( over 3 MILLION miles and counting) that NO detector will save your butt from a cop sitting quietly in the dark holding his finger on the "button". Only thing they're good for then is to tell you: "you just got a ticket". Since the speed limits were raised, I've had only a handful of tickets vs a butt load before. I now keep my speed to around 10+ over the limit. 99.9 % of the cops won't even look at you there. Also pays not to apply the brakes when the detector goes off. And do not make eye contact with the officer when you pass each other, just turn your head and look as if you're off in another world. Most figure, you're fat dumb and happy and let you slide. You'll spend less money feeding the dector companies this way vs a few dollars for an occasional ticket. None of my tickets for the last ten+ years have gone on my record. The court only wants your money, offer to pay them whatever, just as long as it's kept "off the record". Most will.

I've got one of the built in radar detectors with a lazer jammer. It works pretty well from my test with a buddies radar gun and I really think it has gotten me out of a few tickets. Plus it's pretty much completely invisible if you pull over and turn your car off. However, like anything it isn't full proof. If your doing maybe 10 over it usually gives you enough notice to slow down. But, if the cop is waiting there and specifically shoots you, he will have your speed before you can react. You just have to hope there is someone in front of you that he shoots first. That's why I don't speed unless the guy in front of me and behind me is speeding. Usually they leave the middle guy alone. Also, I stay to the right as much as possible. You just have to be lucky and drive smart.
