I've been having a problem with my Sony stereo/cd player in my 92 GT vert. The cd player doesn't play anymore but the radio works. So, I have a Ford Contour CD player sitting around that I want to use. I went to take out my old radio out and replace it and found that the one harness doesn't work. I could plug in the power harness and it would turn on, but the other won't work because they're different sizes. The one in my car is rectangular and the Contour radio is sqaure.

My question is can I just splice the square plug from a newer car to my harness to fit the player?

Since it's a factory radio, will I need to have a amped system? I was told it would only work for "Premium Sound" equipt cars. When I replaced my speakers, they all had a sticker that said Premium sound, so I guess my car has it. Any help would be appreciated.
