Hey guys I was wondering if someone could help me out. I need to see a pic of how the stock rear sway bar mounts. Any info on where I could buy a new kit would be great. Any info would be great. Thanks.
The ends of the factory sway bar mount with a pretty unique bracket and isolator. I have attached a pic of mine before I pulled it off and cleaned it. (I hope to have "cleaned" pics to post soon. ) The bushings are pretty standard and available from PST or Energy Suspensions, but the bracket is either a junkyard or custom item. The body of the rear sway bar mounts to an extension on the spring perch plates. So if your MII came without a rear sway bar, you have to get the proper spring plates. The bushing for the rear sway bar is generic and can be had from the above companies. Oddly enough, the front endlinks are still available from Moog.
Sorry, the end-link brackets have been gone for a while now. But it wouldn't be too difficult for someone to fabricate something similar, maybe even simpler. I was thinking if I ever did these again I would consider just making a simple 'L' bracket out of heavier gauge steel. All you would need is two holes for bolting to the frame, and one large hole for the Energy Suspension end link.
Napalm, I got your e-mail and did some looking through my pics and could not find a good one of the general swaybar mounting. I remember seeing a drawing of the rear suspension in a Chilton's or Haynes manual, so you might check to see if a rear swaybar pic is in it if you have one. The rear swaybar fits pretty closely to the bottom of the rear diff housing, with the curve in the bar hugging the housing. The swaybar bushings mount on top of the spring plates, so with the rear of the swaybar against the diff housing and the arms of the swaybar above the spring plates, the attaching points for the bushings should be clear. With the swaybar mounted to the bushings, the ends should line up with the endlink mounts. Hope that this helps.
Simpler maybe but your look so cool I kicked my self for not getting a set although there was nothing wrong with mine. You are still an inspiration to us all. z
