DAGGER, PLEASE PUT IN TALK. I THOUGHT I WAS IN TALK.

Last week the person behind me was rearended and pushed into my car. The only visible damage is scraped up/loose bumper cover. I had to get an estimate and this is what the guy said needed replacing:

    Rear Bumper Cover: $375
    Rear Face Bar: $450
    2 Energy Absorbers: $121 each.

With labor and paint the estimate comes up to $1600.

Few questions: I've always wanted the cobra bumper....I can get it for around $275 from 50resto. Anyone use it?

What is the rear face bar? I've seen the rear bumper reinforcement in 50resto but the price is only $75. That is a huge difference so I wonder if I'm looking at the same things.

Where can I get the energy absorbers? The price he gave is from the factory parts. I don' t even think I'll have him fix it b/c I could use the money to fix all the other things I need to fix on the car: door panels, MM LCA, Tails/Headlights......basically everything except 5 lug and paint....and front seats.....and H/C/I......and blower......(will it ever end?).

I think I'll fix the bumper reinforcement and energy absorbers and put the scraped up bumper back on. Then use the rest of the money to address other things with the intention of putting the cobra bumper on when I get the car painted (one day)....please take not of my sig.

They must mean the reinforcement. There's nothing else in there.

Do you have any idea about the $400 difference?

oem vs. aftermarket. the oem parts are getting a LOT harder to find nowadays in good condition. im getting the frontend of my car fixed next week, shop told me i was welcome to shop around for my own parts, they wanted over $1k for the front clip, i got repops (cept for the bumper support and impact absorbers, used oem parts there) for about $400. fit may not be spectacular, but im prepared for it.

Take the money and go shopping. You can do way better than those prices. I had the same thing happen on my first GT. I got rear ended, they quoted $600 to fix it, I took the $600, got a Cobra bumper and pocketed the rest. :D

    Factory vs. Chinese-built crap.

wow....lucky you. I wish that happened to me. Nice little tap worth 1600 bucks. My bumper has seen better days and a Cobra would look right at home.

I guess I wouldn't mind who built it just as long as it stops the car from slamming into the body of the car. I guess I'll be using the money for better things. Thanks guys.
