My 69 coupe (302 2bbl, C4) gave up the ghost last year after ten years as a daily driver. I've been thinking about putting in a stroker kit and building a strong, reliable engine. I still want to keep all the stock p/s, p/b and a/c so it's fun to drive to shows, etc. But, to build the engine the correct way will cost me about as much as a crate engine. What do you all think would be the best? The car is just a regular coupe, so I'm not too concerned about keeping a numbers matching engine.
Not hving done this (yet) I'm going on what I've picked up around here. Which, (IIIRC) is that the cost of a good quality stroker kit, added to the cost a heads-and-block machining, will run you about the same as (or maybe a little more than) a decent crate engine. I'm sure a few of the more experienced guys will weigh in with specifics. And of course, "your mileage may vary". If wishes were pennies and I had another 9 hours free time (which would make about 10 hours total) in the typical day; my future '67 would be motivated by a Ford Racing 392 Windsor crate - but that's just me.
