I just bought a '90 GT and want to install my stereo system asap... as nice as the engine sounds I can't commute without some music. What I'm wondering is if it's possible to move my HVAC control panel to the lower spot where the factory headunit resides, and install my Alpine deck (standard DIN size) in the upper space....? Has anyone done this or seen it done, and how was it made to work? I saw a website where someone did the opposite in a Crown Vic but I lost the address a long time ago. The stock stereo location is somewhat obscured by the shifter (5 speed) as most of you already know, and I definately change music & stereo settings way more often than I change the ventilation controls... I'm sure I'll just roll both windows down whenever possible now that I have a seriously fun car. Any advice is greatly appreciated... I'm sure a lot of you guys have wondered about this and I figure someone must have pulled it off before. I'm mainly hoping the wires for the HVAC will reach, mounting the panel should be wasy enough.
anyone? i'm going to keep scouring the 'net for any info on this subject... if it comes down to it I'll just try and figure it out on my own. if moving the deck is at all possible (and not insanely difficult), i'm sure a lot of fox owners would like to see a website or tech tip on stangnet with diretions how to do the mod, no?
Try this link..... http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=506258 I did it and it worked great only took me about an hour from start to finish. I used plexiglass for the trim plate, painted it black from the back side so it wouldn't scratch the paint off if the front of it got nicked.
