removing waterspots

Ive noticed i have some water spots on my car. Im not sure how they got on there but if i get at the right angle in the light i can see them. I was getting ready to prep my car for zaino app. Assuming if i put the zaino on now it will just make the spots deeper into the polish.

Am i going to have to strip all the "wax" and start again to get that **** off?

any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

its an 03 without much exposure to the elements so the surface is in good shape otherwise.

White vinegar will remove water spots, if you like go to autopia.org and do a search for water spots. You'll see white vinegar used to remove stubborn h2o spots...

A good polish before you put on the zaino should also remove your water spots.

i'll try to describe what im calling water spots. It almost looks like a semi outline of where water was at one time, almost a partial hair in the paint. I clay barred it hoping to get it out but no luck. its smooth and flat no bumps but in the right light it almost looks dirty.

I'll prolly try the vineger tommorow, if its decent outside so i can wash it after.

Sound more like acid ecthing in the paint, probably going to have to polish the paint in order to level the paint.

I agree. That or hard enough water that sets will also etch the paint. Polish polish polish

yea there not cloudy like i think normal spots would be. But, the odd thing is in sunlight you cant see them. only see it in my garage under my flouresant lights where i detail and store it.

Yeah the lighting in the garage will show everything. When I polish, I put a halogen light up to the car. You can see all the fine scratches and swirls that way.

I've got this problem too. It almost seems like the paint is oxidizing (sp). When I clayed, cleaned, polished, waxed, the spots were not there. After about a week I started to notice the spots starting to pop up. The spots are only on the fenders and the hood.

I have a 91 with red paint, so it might be something diffrent.

This may seem like a dumb question but what do you mean by polish? I guess its something ive never done. Ive clayed and waxed a ton. Do you mean buffing? I have always been to afraid to buff my cars ive seen where people have done it before and it was just a swirl mess.

Im extremely anal about cleaning to the point of removing the wheels once a month and completely cleaning the wheel wells and chrome polish to the inside of my rims.

If you have of know of any how-to's on polishing the right way id love to check them out.

Clay and wax won't remove what you are talking about. You can use Polish by hand but it won't work as good. I use either Poorboy's Pro Polish, SSR1,SSr2.5 depending on how bad the paint is. It is worth if to invest in a Porter Cable Polisher.

Even a $40 cheapy buffer is better than by hand. Also you won't waste NEAR as much wax or whatever your using. Just my $.02

I have had those etched in spots on mine for as long as I can remember. If you're at the right angle in the right light you can see them everywhere. I have just accepted them and moved on since under normal outside conditions you don't see them. But yes, they annoy me when I do see them.

You could try Megs ScracthX by hand to see if it can fix the defects.

thanks for the link that was some great info. I'll prolly go out this weekend and pick up one of those porter cables or something. I'll be surfing the net for deals on machines and looking for advise on pads/polish ect. so if any one has anything like that id love to hear from you.
