I finally broke down and unclasped my fist from some money and got a 66 coupe (c code)

    1. besides the shop manual, what are some good books that I can read on restoring the mustang, welding on panels, and other basic body work?

    2. which supplier do you prefer and why?

    3. the car came with magnum 500 wheels with gt-350 center caps that I would assume are an original wheel. Is the a date code on the wheel to look at to see if they are real wheels or not? Also, if they are real, are they worth any thing? They need restored . I think they look fine on my car, but if they are needed for a shelby project and I could easily part with them.

    Congrats!
The Ford Shop manual is a big plus.
As far as the welding, or any basic body stuff, there is so much info, you could probably find what you need doing a google search.
The wheels I believe may have been a dealer option. How to tell if they are original with your car you'd probably need the dealer invoice. And they do look awesome on that car.
How much repair does your car need? Just body, or does it need floor/chassis work too?

It needs a pretty good amount of work. It needs floors, a bit of frame work at the rear (maybe 12" or so), and also fenders, door skins, hood well you get the idea. I'll probably be swearing at myself sometime in the restoration, but it's also one of those things I've always wanted to do. Take a rusty old car and bring it back to life.

I don't think the magnums are original to this car, but from the condition they are in I was thinking they were originals from that era. If so, are they worth anything?

The floors and frames aren't too difficult to do if you can weld halfway decent. Big thing to remember is measure fifty times cut once, remeasure another fifty times and weld........make sure you have it all well supported and in-line, check your level....etc......
You may want to do a search on me, look for my floor pan threads..
I won't even attempt the external body...I'll pay to have that done right by somebody who actually has experience w/ that sh**!
Door panels are not difficult to replace.......don't recall if I posted any of my work there......new skins look great........still gotta replace the guts.............
Just remember to take your time and enjoy the process.:nice:
