how simple is it to fit cruise to a 96 V6 that didn't origionaly come with it? is it just a case of a cable, module and some switches, or is it a total nightmare? i'm guessing its not too hard to find a similar car with the cruise in a breakers?

I think it leans to the nightmare side. You possibly forgot the steering wheel controls, brake sensor, vacuum tree connections.

Just get an aftermarket cruise control kit. It will have everything you need. It will be a lot easier than trying to get everything in the stock CC and hoping that it works!
