Last week a friend told me about another junk yard he had found that looked like it had older cars in it. Well we went out to it today, YESTERDAY they crushed 3 MII. I gotta tell ya, I was crushed. If I had just went there last week when he told me about it. On a plus side, me and my GF have been driving into the backwoods the past month or so looking for MII. Within a 75 mile radius of us we have found 7 MII just sitting rusting away. 1 of them appears to be a King. 1 is a Cobra II in a barn, not to bad of shape, along with the Cobra II in the barn sits a 2 door 67 (or so) Fairlane, 4 door 55 Chevy, and I think about a 62 T-Bird conv. (the year's that the nose rounds down to a point) with the top down of course, full of hay, chicken/bird poop and god knows what else. We talked to the old guy here, but he won't sale. We are trying to track down the owners of the other cars, which you know won't be easy. Sorry for rambling.
With the price the yards are getting for scrap cars most will not keep much inventory stored for long periods. Therefore the II's go as do other good parts cars like thirdgen Z's. It's worth it to flip any car that has a catalytic converter on it since the price of platinum and rodium are up. Some yards will save some of the II's for parts. The problem is finding those yards out of your area. I was at one of my local U-Pull it yards today and there were only two II's left already picked. This is a 150 acre yard too. I scored a rear inside tail light panel in fair shape, one front side marker, front and rear bumper trim (minus the front center piece), and a decent pair of a/c dash bezels. Total cost was like $10. I also wanted some 3G alternators so I went to the Taurus wagon/Mustang section and only found one decent alternator out of about 100 Taurus, Mustang, and B-turds. Scored that mug for ten beans. It may be the next project for one of my II's since it's 130 amps. I also checked out a yard a few weeks back that's about 150 miles from me and they do have a few II's with some good parts left and one 76 or 7 Cobra that is being sold complete. II's are still out there you just have to search a little harder today compared to 10 or 15 years ago.
