No they did not, only performance enhancements in 98 were the Borla cat-back and the K&N filter.

The only S281s to come factory supercharged in that time span ('96-'98) were the '98 SA15 anniversary cars.

As I pointed out in my original posting of that oh-so-sweet Laser Red Saleen Cobra, the eBay poster's claim that the Vortech was "factory installed" by Saleen is :Total-CP:

The only Vortech originally installed by Saleen was on the early S351SR, S351R & later S351 models. These installations were EPA/CARB certified. No Vortech was ever certified for installation on a S281. IOW, Saleen would have been in violation of federal & CA emissions laws if such an installation occurred at their facility.

Therefore, the Vortech on this particular Saleen Cobra had to have been installed by the selling dealer, Anderson Ford, who did not have to worry about emissions certification as the Vortech was already certified as an acceptable aftermarket modification by both EPA & CARB.

BTW, love some of the new smilies :nice:

I have a 98 Saleen Cobra, #141. Its supercharged. According to Liz, my car has every option, including the Vortech which was ordered with the car.
My understanding is, you could order the Supercharger as an option but it was installed by a local Ford dealer, not Saleen.
The Ebay car is showing the supercharger on the window sticker from Saleen.

This same ad says its the last one built yet its #96. The ship date was 6/98. My car, #141 was shipped 8/98. I assume car numbers are in order somewhat of the build dates.

I don't claim to be an expert. Just throwing in my 2 cents.

Apollo13 is correct. You could pay the money to Saleen for the blower but they couldn't install the blower on the factory floor due to the EPA/CARB issue. It was the same with the Explorer XP8's......Our XP8 has the crappy Powerdyne factory installed blower. Not sure where it was installed but I know Saleen wasn't allowed to do it in Irvine. That is the first time I have heard it being on the window sticker though  I guess you learn something new everyday................

By the way, I need everyone to check their magazine collection from back in late 97 through early 99 for any articles featuring our XP8. It won't be hard to miss, white with white wheels car #01

Here is a terrible picture of it, sorry but I am not on the computer where the pictures we took are on. This is the best one I could find on the net. Please let me know if you find it and which issue it is so I can lay my hands on a few copies. I know it was featured in many mag's since it was the prototype XP8

    Damn,

It's a good thing they have not made a white S7 yet or we would hear about the string of bank robberies in the Anaheim area.:D Well, there are a few S7R's around though.

No need to rob banks in Anahiem Hills, remember my connection with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, I'll just hold one of the players kids for ransom.....Half a mil without breaking a sweat! :rlaugh:
Besides, until I get the 60 foot driveway repaved, the S7 wouldn't clear without scrapping the *hit out of the chasis anyways. I'm not even 100% sure the mustangs will clear yet, I have yet to try.....
