    Yea,

I'm sure it is legit. Just make sure you get pictures of the console plaque and engine plaque.

I peeked at the book real quick and the last three of the vin match. It also says this car cmae with a white top,
    Cruise control ***
    and 3.55's.
It also said it was a SEMA exhibit car. Kinda cool.

Since this is an early 88, the engine bay plaque will still be inside the top of the drivers side front fender and read Anaheim. If you specifically wanted cruise control before the 89's you got the stock mustnag steering wheel as Saleen did not have their hands on the Momo wheel adaptor for the cruise yet. That was standard for most of the 89s. Just like occasionally you will see a vert with the complete stock leather interior as Flo Fit did not offer leather as an option. If you wanted leather interior, you got a stock mustang leather interior. It was a BIG Deal to get Flo Fit to make all 320 leather two tone seats for the SSC's in 88-89. Expensive too!

    Oh yea.

I bet that car came with the old valance. That makes it even neater to me, but I'm sick in that dept. Technically, the 87-88's are supposed to have that rear valance. It was changed a bit (functional vents) like yours I'm sure for 89. Maybe you got an early 89 valance? That's what happened back then. Install what you have in stock. :D

I think it is safe to say that more people then just Marcus can answer foxbody questions..... :D

Quoting yet again The Saleen Book by Brad Bowling this saleen checks out, here's what the saleen registry says:
    Last 3 vin: 128
    Chassis: P44
    Ship Date: 12/01/87
One and only Saleen Register owner: Jerry Vitiello in NY
Comments: 3.55, Cruise, White Top, Displayed At Sema Show.
So if you dig up Magazines from the Sema Show in late 1987, this car will most likely be in one of if not many pictures
    Running changes during model year:
    Five-Spoke wheel became available (late)
Lower Rear Valance Panel Phased in (early)
Sorry, I can't answer the steering wheel questions, maybe the original owner wanted the stock wheel as opposed to the momo wheel
Maybe Saleen owed Momo money and couldn't get the steering wheels until after the delivery date
The world may never know
Buy The Saleen Book, it will be the best $60 you ever spend if you are a saleen addict like a few of us are...... :nice:

i wasnt questioning the authenticity of the car but the differences that saleen would do through a model year. i have noticed that it was a use what you have deal. kind of neat to notice the differences that saleen cars have. the only question not answered was the 89 intake plate? my car has the later rear valance but i think the early looks cool because you dont hardly see it on cars anymore. and sorry guys i didnt mean to step on anybodys toes on marcus being the saleen expert. everybody will get a star or smiley on their saleen fan timecard. :) and yes i need to buy the book.

The intake plaque is still period correct for 88 cars. The 86 ( efi ) and some 87's had the plaque where the 5.0 and H.O. written the other way in black. :D

Nice "Ralphy, gets his mouth washed out with soap" avatar.

    Robert,

Troy probably singled me out because back in May when he was looking for his car I was the only one to answer one of his newbie Saleen questions. :D

Besides, I'll only chime in when I know the answer. Remember, I'm an old man compared to you and I was there. Damn, I'm an old man. :D

That rear valance is also my favorite of the fox bodies..ie '87 model yr. Its truely funny how they built cars back then, as Marcus points out, whatever was avalible that particular day/wk was used. The side window stickers that say Ford motorsport was normally an 87 model yr only as well. It looks like it also came with a equlizer delete as well, so that car has a few different items..I have seen saleen 89-175 that came orginally with the tri stripes and not the S logo near the back tires, whatever is in stock was used :nice:

I would say just viewing the pictures and if mileage is correct, 12k for that car is a good deal, if not a great deal. The thing has really never been touched in terms of mods, etc...the thing is a "virgin" :D

While trying to sell a rare car, you'd think they would vacumm the carpet.

I noticed that the car came with cruise. I believe Saleen had not come out with the cruise plate for the momo in 88 yet so they may have stuck with the stock wheel so as to have the cruise functional. I added the plate to my 87 so my cruise would be functional with the original momo steering wheel.

    Right.

Didn't I say that earlier in my post?

If you wanted cruise control in your Saleen Mustang before 1989, Saleen left the stock Mustang steering wheel for you. :D

George, I still covet your Stern wheels. :D
