I now understand why sensory deprivation is such an effective interrogation tool. I'm losing my mind from boredom and I have all my senses...I can't imagine not being able to see, hear, smell, taste or feel anything. I think I'd lose all control.

Man it's relaxing, if you do it willingly. what I used to do is float in our pool at night - warm water, no light, no sound because my ears are in the water, not eating, and not much to smell.

    Sensory Overload!

I have just the solution for you - go volunteer to be a Boy Scout leader at some Summer Camp!

Don't get me wrong, I've got a great bunch of guys in my Troop. :nice: But after a week of living in tents, a bunch of 12-13-yr-olds can start to really get on each others' (and their Scoutmaster's) nerves :notnice:

Funny..... Trish (1/2NK) described Boot Camp as "Boy Scout Camp taken to extremes"

    I would say this then:
Either Boy Scout Camp is reaaaaally tough, or Army Boot Camp is reaaaallly weak.

I would also say this...boot camp seems a lot easier after you've done it, than it seems while you're going through it.

I was sitting around on my 2nd day of duty in 3 days, during a 4 day weekend (I tookover for one of our guys who had to go home on emergency leave) and I was bored out of my skull and began to think..."Man, I'm going insane just sitting here." so eventually this lead to "So, if sensory deprivation is this plus not being able to feel or hear anything...well damn."

I know exactly what you mean. I had surgery two weeks ago and am sitting at home. Dr's instructions are pretty much to "do nothing" The project car will have to wait while I waste away...

You obviously haven't been around me (or your Uncle Ted for that matter) when the Scouts do something really stupid.

    For example:
This is an example of a Marine doing/saying something foolish, and getting called on it. For both Marines and Boy Scouts, the fatal mistake is in the following assumption:
Which indicates your past experiences are beginning to cloud your judgement. :p

I could go on about skywalker missing out on the opportunity to capitalize on his situation......
Here, I would have worked this situation around to convince somebody else not bright enough to pass on The Duty - for the "Free Sensory Deprivation Chamber Experience". He missed it :nonono:

Don't feel bad, young Skywalker. I was talking to 1/2NK this AM - she was trying to alleviate the boredom she was experiencing while covering Fireguard for somebody on Sick Call

Try 13. That's not counting SOI, which may as well have been 4th phase of boot camp .Hell, I still get screamed at once in a while.

    a) it's not a good thing to have to ask that.
    b) bwuahahaha

If I hadn't done it, most likely, no one would have. We were in the middle of a surprise birthday party for another Marine (organized by his visiting wife.) Everyone else was drinking, I wasn't. This particular guy is a very good friend of mine, and he would have done it for me.

It would have been one thing if we'd had days to plan for it, but, on the contrary we had about 15 minutes.
