i have a 2005 mustang gt with a 2008 shaker 500 head unit. everything works except for the backlighting and door subs. has anyone else done this swap and experienced these problems or have advice for me?
I'm not certain that the 2008 head unit will work properly in your car. I do know for a fact that when replacing the head unit a Programmable Module Installation procedure must be done. In simpler terms the head unit must be configured to work properly. This may be all that's needed. The part that sucks is you will have to have a dealership do it for you, and you might need the original head unit for them to pull configuration data out of it.
thanks for the info and luckily i still have the original head unit in the trunk but the only problem is im in germany and i dont think the german ford dealer can help me with this
If the dealer in Germany uses IDS (integrated diagnostic software) with a laptop computer and a VCM (vehicle communication module), which is what U.S. dealers use to diagnose vehicle concerns, then they will be able to configure it properly.
I have a 2006 GT 'vert. with Shaker 500. I installed a 2008 H/U and everything worked fine from the get go.
i had a lot of trouble with the Shaker 500 not playing mp3 cds very well. i took it out and installed a jvc head unit and have been very pleased. i've heard a lot of people have trouble with the Shaker 500.
