Okay hears my pitty story….my 03 mach 1, which had a petite 29,000 miles under it’s belt, developed a knock in the engine…it’s a connecting rod….and it appears as if it’s going to cost me about $2000 when it’s all said and done to just have the bottom end rebuilt with stock components So this is what I was thinking….MMR makes a variety of 4 valve short block I can just about afford…. between $3000-$2500…I’m currently working my way through college and money is hard to come by, however, I’m not willing to sacrifice quality and I might as well have a strong platform for future upgrades…forged internals are a must for the power I plan on making a couple of years down the road…The only thing is the MMR blocks I can afford are all iron so I would be gaining some weight ditching my aluminum block So my questions are: Is MMR (modularmustangracing.com) the best company to go with for a short block??? -How much more does a iron block weigh over the mach’s stock aluminum block??? -For right now I have to use my stock heads, cams, and intake so would I see a initial power increase if I went to a 5.0 or a 5.4 over the 4.6??? -What would be the most cost efficient way to get more power out of a higher cubic inch engine like a 5.0 or 5.4 if I do go with one in my mach???? Thanks for reading and I really appreciate any suggestions
MMR is Deff the Best company to go with! The rest is up to you, maybe some 4v guys can step up and help with that, but you WILL NOT GO WRONG with MMR!!!
40 lbs, and if you plan on going with a power adder in the future stick with a standard bore and stroke.
+1 no more than a 5.0 stroker. MMR is a great company w/ an awesome reputation. You caould just offset the weight w/ a aftermarket K-member kit when you get some cash saved
Nice, you posted this in Tech and Talk sections. http://forums.stangnet.com/772878-short-block-questions.html Like I said earlier in the tech thread. MMR is NOT a good company, do a Internet search on them and you will find they have plentiful unhappy customers and many complaints with the Better Business Bureau. Not something you will find with a good reputable shop. 5.0L Strokers are a huge waste of funds if you intend to stay N/A. You will make less power with it.
Just buy a rotating assembly that is .020 over and have a local machine shop bore and hone your aluminum block and assemble it you'll be less than 3 grand that way
