Hey guys im thinking about selling my 69 stang. I've been thinking about it for a while now but i am having some trouble going through with it. She is really impractical as you all know and causes me more worry than she is worth..... but the stares are priceless. Her replacement would be a 2003 SVT Lightning or cobra...my other favorite vehicles. Anyhoo, would you do it? or maybe just build the 351w up and keep her.
Sell it! You don't need it! Seriously, if you decide to sell, send me a PM. I have wanted a black 69 forever . . . .
Don't sell it... Give it to me! With a wife and 4.5 kids I can't afford to buy it, but I would promise to give it a good home with lots of TLC. Just kidding (about giving it to me, the rest is true) Good luck with what ever you decide. but if you sell it won't you kick yourself in the rear, several years from now, wishing you still had it? I know I would.
i'd be kicking myself as soon as someone started counting out the cash. i wouldn't sell it, just build the windsor and keep it. what kind of problems are you having that you say makes it not worth it? impracticality? there are so many things that can be sone to an old stang now that would make them more reliable it's almost ridiculous, fuel injection, overdrive trannies, modern suspension components, better brake components, and ton's of luxury items as well, power windows and locks, power trunk release, modern stereos, better seats, sound deadeners, etc. sure they cost money but so does a new car or truck and re-doing the stang will likely cost a bunch less if you can do the work yourself.
Thanks for the replies guys. I guess my main problem is that i put money in the wrong places.... well, maybe not wrong places, just not the fun ones. First thing i did three years ago when i bought the car was put her in the backyard and begin the stripdown and some of the prepwork for paint.(paint was fine and didn't need it yet ). Then i had the suspension replaced front to back; control arms, polygraphite bushings, leafs, the works, except i didn't do anything to the steering and she still feels like she's on a constant oil slick. And finally the motor is stock....bone stock, intake, exhaust everything except the demon on top....which was fine until I blew her freezer plugs all over the street when me and my buddies 71 were..uuuhhh...messing around a little. She still runs reliably but she is a little low on power these days Then there is the threat of THEFT; i could take losing a new car, they can be replaced, but if someone stole my 69........... Sorry for long rant guys, but i haven't been this confiicted in a good long while. p.s. I know it sounds bad but as you all know the good definitely outweighs the bad, i just didn't see any reason to post the positives as you guys know the joys of owning a car like this all too well
Ah yes, the dilemma. I have asked myself that many times before too. Just when you think you want to sell, something happens to make you keep it. It's the stares for me. I was on my way to dinner at my GF's house tonight, when a black 2000 something Vette pulled up next to me at the light. He heard the thumping cam and headers and didn't even try to leave on the green. I know he could've blown me out of the water, maybe, but that makes me keep mine.
Hey 2nd Mustang, It's funny that you mentioned that...I can't think of one time that I have EVER been challenged on the street....despite the fact that my daily driver; a 96 130 hp v6 thunderbird would probably run away from the stang with no problem
I've had challenges many times by the FWD crowd. Stop light stuff is fun with the top loader, BUT I am careful not to exceed the speed limit, I don't want to lose the car. I save the WOT stuff for the freeway on ramps.
