Instead of just swappign to GT exhaust, does anyone make a performance replacement for the factory V6 single pipe exhaust?

I think with intake, exhaust and a decent 3 inch Single, it'd sound pretty nice.

I have a single exhaust flowmaster American Thunder and it sounds pretty good. Of course i catch laughs for doing a performance exhaust on a six but hell with it, i like it and its not too ricey.

Its actually 3.5 inch i would have preferred it to be a 3 or 2.5 but can't complain too much because it sounds good. Some companies i know make 4 inch which is getting a little carried away and make it look a civic exhaust.

for 3 inch are you talking about the tip or the exhaust itself?

Has anyone swapped GT take-off mufflers onto the 4.0 V6 (making it a dual exhaust) How did it sound?

The base 289 was making 225hp in the '60's.
Today's V6 is making almost the same.
    Nothing to laugh about:nice:

Not to be an SOB but actually the base 289 with single exhaust 2barrel made between 195 and 200 depending on the year so the new 6'ers are actually better. Plus HP was measured differently in the 60's, a 200 HP 289 put down only put down around 130 to the wheels a new stock V6 puts down like 165-175

    Riggs,

Thank you for the info. What I mentioned was the number from a Mustang book shows an advertized HP, and I was wondering about the way of measurment as well.

My '67 was around 160hp 210 torque on a rear wheel dyno.
I believe what you said is right.

Several exhausts are available. The 4.0collective has a few exhaust clips with various manufacturers. Several V6 owners have gone to the MRT Aero turbine or even the Stinger. Duals will sound better of course and unfortunately while the V6 does sound throaty it is a higher sounding exhaust compared to the V8
