I've had my GT for a month now. I've been reading this, and a couple other forums since then, and have gained a lot of information. I did some searches, but haven't found anything similar to my problem. I commute 90+ miles a day, round trip, and last weekend took a 1200 mile road trip. My Sirius has always performed flawlessly. I did have a lot of stuff loaded in the trunk Sunday. New ramp stands, floor jack and jackstands, and creeper...getting ready for a couple of mods. Last night, and again tonight on the way home, the audio started cutting out, and I would get "No Signal", then "Acquiring", and then the signal would come back. I could not get a signal for more than 30 seconds or so. I switched over to FM, whch was fine. Switched back to Sirius, cutting out again. I checked the wire where it connects to the antenna, and it looks fine. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it time to call the dealer? It's just odd that after the first time I used the trunk for anything other than a suitcase, the Sirius starts acting up.
I have had problems with Sirius cutting out on several cars. (My Alpine head unit, wife's Eclipse, and recently My Mother In Laws factory Chrysler Unit.) I never had this problem with XM.
So what do y'all think? Sunspots? Interference from the flux capacitor? Rupert Murdoch? Since I didn't introduce myself on the first post, glad to be here. Here's my currently Sirius-less baby: (Hope it works)
I have Sirius and have never had a problem. There must be an unobstructed view of the sky. If you are in a garage, under a bridge, etc. you may lose the signal briefly. Otherwise you should have no problem. That's also true with XM. I'd say go to your dealer.
Well yeah, the pun was kind of intended....I only had stuff in the trunk Sunday night. This morning, I turned on the radio again. I usually don't in the morning, just enjoy listening to the exhaust as I make my 2000 foot climb up into the mountains. It cut out a few times during the first ten minutes, then was fine. Tonight, it was great again, only cutting out as I went through each of the 3 tunnels on my route, which is to be expected. I'm chalking it up to sunspots.
When you go up mountains the signal will cut out every once and awhile. The antenna doesn't have a clear view of the sky with a huge chunk of rock beside it, and if you don't have any repeaters near you, then the singal will drop.
I have both and XM consistantly stays "on line" more often. But that's because XM uses ground repeaters in addition to the Sats. Once the two merge hopefully all this will be moot.
My Sirius cuts out if there is anything over the trunk.... small house garage of solid cement parking deck. But I recently drove 120 miles back home with a trunk PACKED full of various crap, and did not have an issue whatsoever. I can't imagine that your trunk load being composed mostly of metal caused any interference. But I guess it would be the first step in explaining it. As long as it works now, and normally, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Personally, I still have the free six month subscription from Ford for the Sirius...and I'm not sure that I'll renew. I've heard some great things about satellite radio, but it just isn't impressing me that much. The worst thing is when changing stations, there is the delay in acquiring the signal. That annoys me to no end.
I had XM in my previous car and actually liked it better than the Sirius. There was less chatter and less signal drop.
