What are SLP's, are they just a set of pipes with chrome tips on the end or is there a muffler in them. Are they legal in terms of emissions? Does anyone have a good sound clip?
Yes, they are essentially pipes that eliminate the mufflers. They are emissions legal and look at Cleveland's signature for a sound clip.
SLP Loudmouths are pipes with chrome/polished tips. There is no muffler per say. They claim to be emissions(Exhaust emissions) legal in all 50 states. Your state may have specific requirements, And state or citys might have noise ordnances. For example Texas, where I live, 20.15 of the Texas emissions code "every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with muffler in good working order and in constant operation." Muffler defined: Muffler is a device consisting of a series of chambers or baffle plates or other mechanical design for the purpose of receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and/or turbine wheels for the purpose of receiving exhaust gas from a diesel engine, both of which are effective in reducing noise. It is arguable if the SLP loudmouth qualifies as a muffler under this definition. It could be argued that it qualifies as a muffler as "other mechanical design" as it is designed with a hallow wall tip. If the SLP loudmouth does not qualify as a muffler then it could be argued that they are not emmisions legal in Texas as the muffler requirement is part of the emissions codes in Texas. So in other words, you might have trouble getting muffler shops to install them or passing inspection afterwards.
I first ordered the SLP loudmouth (from mustang tuning.com) and when I opened the box I started laughing about the loud sound I will produce, finally and before installation, I changed my mind and exchange them for SLP powerflow, the same design but with a little muffler "around" the exhaust tubing. I think I was very right to do this, because it is loud enough with those, I cannot imagine with the loud mouth !!! I also have a "drone" but at lower rpm, 1500 ? I didn't really paid attention, but I try to avoid it by changing my trhottle angle. just to mention : I was glad mustang tuning exchanged me the exhaust without any problem, altough it was impossible to get in touch with them over the phone (I first was afraid not to get in touch with them) they deal with everything by email.
Agree with the above posts. LMs are exactly that--loud. It's basically just a double walled straight through pipe. Are street legal but I don't go winding it out near any cops! Also, get a fairly annoying drone ~2500 RPM. Still, they are well made and fit nice. I'll learn to love them!
The Bassani offroad pipe? I'm researching pipes and don't know what is the difference with offroad pipes and normal x-pipes. I looked up some images and it looks the same. Is it that the offroad bend upwards?
With the Offroad pipes, what is the difference between those and the normal x-pipe? It it that it bends upwards?
The O/R pipe eliminates the catalytic converters. And I'm actually getting the Pypes O/R h-pipe so my car can be REALLY loud!!
slp's the loudmouth work and sound great plus i installed them in about 1 hr in my driveway gotta love that!!!!
I am wanting the off road H-pipes. I just want to know how loud they really are?? Do you know if anyone has any sound clips? I had Off Road H-pipes on my 04 GT w/ Flowmasters and it sounded good but with the SLP's there are no mufflers so it would essentialy be straight pipes. If you guys -n-gals have any info let me know. thanks
brenspeed.com has a sound clip of the Pypes O/R h-pipe and SLPs, which is what helped me make my decision to add the O/R pipe to my stang.
