Some pics of the custom 3" exhaust progress (vid)

It's not quite done yet, but here's most of it, all we gotta do now is run it up and over the rear end and out the back (passenger side). That's what those two pipes that are 90'ing straight up are.

I'll have more pics once it's done. I'm so happy with it so far. I'll try to get a clip of it as soon as we finish it.

Are you going to use 3" stainless band clamps to hold the rear sections together? (I use those clamps on a lot of projects)

Here's a video clip of how it sounds.

    http://www.starshadow.com/~gael/mustangii-newexhaust.wmv (2.7 megs)

I love how it sounds, I need to get a better microphone to really get the full sound out of it. I also need to get some exhaust tips for it, that's my plan for tomorrow.

I can actually hear my electric fuel pump now.

I'm collecting parts to make my 3 inch as well. I too, am planning on using cats. I can't stand smelling an uncat car for a daily driver.

Any reason why you put the cats after the x pipe and is you engine a 302? did you loose bottom end with the quasi sewer pipes?

    Thanks
    Alcino

That engine is a stroker 393 and, if it's like my 351, I'm sure any loss of low end is more of a gain in traction.

Yeah, it's a 393 stroker, and I didn't notice and power loss, at least not from driving it, maybe on the dyno it would've.. but I haven't dynoed it yet. And any traction that I can gain is a blessing. My next plan after strong elec fans is to figure out some big rear tires that I can stuff in.

As for the cats, that's just how we did it, we figured that'd work the best.

I would think that header diameter and primary tube length would play a much more critical role on torque and hp than exhaust system diameter.

I've seen dyno tests on various engines, and they all seem to make more power with the exhaust off the car.(open headers) so if they make the most power with no exhaust, why would making an existing system larger hurt the power?

I had a 2.5" system on my car years ago, when the motor was only about 320hp. I ended up building a new system from 3", and the car felt exactly the same afterward. I noticed no difference in low end or top end power between the 2.5" and the 3" systems.

you could've just dumped em, instead of comin out to the bumper, you know you'd love to have the muffler drone inside the car, hehe

BTW, the advantage of not runnin cats, you can put some of that fuel perfume in there. I got rootbeer flavor for my Ghia, and Banana for one of 73s

LOL, I thought about getting that just so I could see people like "WTF? Do I smell cotton candy?" as I drove by.
