I had the same problem with my 05 GT. They had to replace the rack and pinion assembly. Once they replaced that there was no more noises.

I have had this problem for about 5 months now, and I want to get it fixed.
How long did it take Ford to replace your Rack & Pinion?
And was it covered under your warranty?

Everything was covered under warranty. The dealer had my car for a week, but they were also dealing with other issues. The paper they gave me said it took them 6 hours tho.

    Thanks for the Info.
Now I just need to find a time when I can do without my 'Stang for a week. I may need to wait until Winter... :D

    Hey!
I just got my car back from Ford. I took it to a local dealership this morning, and after Technicians Test-Driving the vehicle, this is what is listed on my Service Report:

"NO ABNORMAL NOISES HEARD. POSI-TRAC UNIT WORKING AS DESIGNED."

The Technician told me that the noise I was hearing is a part of the TCS engaging. I hate the noise, but I guess I have to deal with it.

The noise is actually coming from the Rear-End of the vehicle; the sounds just echo off the Front-End. :nonono:
I guess I'll be riding with my TCS off unless it rains.

So that noise is normal...it sounds like it is coming from the front? I started noticing it in mine as well. I drive 30 miles to work and at the very last left turn in to the parking lot I hear the whine. Kind of weird, at first I thought it sounded like that tire noise you hear in mall parking lots.

I am going to take mine in as soon as I get a chance and see if they can/will fix it.

i doubt the noise is normal. techs use the disclaimer "unable to dulicate" or something similar if they are too lazy to spend some time finding the problem.

I really appreciate all of the input.
The noise is exactly what cda1028 & bat24 are talking about.

I've put my car in park and began turning the steering wheel; it doesn't make any noises. You only hear the noise when you are turning. The noise is created when the back-end begins to shift from the moment that is created when turning. To make sure that it was coming from the back-end, I got a Front-End Tech. to ride with me, and we did a few slow-motion donuts in the middle of a parking lot. (which really resonates the sound) The Tech was worried about it being a Rear-Differential issue, so he let the Rear-End Tech. ride with me, and the Rear-End Tech told me that it was the Posi-Trac engaging. It sounds screwy (I know :nonono: ), but this is the 2nd Certified Ford Service Center that I have taken my car to; they both say that nothing is abnormal about the sound.
Maybe one day Ford will issue a Service-Bulletin about it; then the problem will be solved....

Thanks Reign696, I was really wondering about this noise. I only hear it when turning into my office parking lot. I try to get the car to make the noise on the way home but I never hear it. For a while I thought it might just be the asphalt, but it seems I am not the only one that has this issue. I am not sure what is more annoying that sound or the squeak that comes from my dash on bumpy roads…

I also have a problem? with a whinning noise when the wheel is turned.

It is very faint, and the car almost needs to be parked to hear it over the exhaust. :D

It almost sounds like high frequency radio buzz, but it is definetly coming from either the power steering pump or rack and pinion.

I've got a long list of things for my dealership to check before my warrantee expires later this year. Guess I'll add this one to the list.

Took my stang in last week to dealer and had service adviser take test drive with me to confirm nature/type of sound coming from front steering. Called me a day later and confirmed that service tech diagnosed problem as bad rack/pinion. Having it replaced when new parts come in. Stay on top of sevice departments and make sure they DO THE RIGHT THING!!!! Thanks for all your other replies.
