well im looking to get a 88 notch which i plan to do a 5.0 conversion on. i bought a stock block off some dude for 50 bucks. it has some rust inside the cylinder wall from sitting outside so it needs to be bored to be useable. i want to make some serious power but i dont want to blow the block apart. should i go wit a 306 or a 347 wit the stock block? or should i just not bother and wait and get an aftermarket block? i dont really plan on running the car at the track but i dont want to blow the motor either.

Basically on a stock block anything over 450rwhp is a timebomb, sure people have and do run more but its dangerous. The aftermarket blocks consist of Man O' War, A4, R302, and the most common, Dart. These blocks are all good for up and over 1000rwhp. They are all roughly the same price after machining as well. As for the 306 or the stroker...there are pleanty of guys running a stock block 347 but depending on the power you will need an aftermarket block... :nice:

331/347, you stay NA and dont go bananas on compression you will be fine with a stock block. though in the future...a World Man O War will be the only way to go. :D

You really don't need the Man O war, or even a dart.
I've seen cars that make over 1500 to the wheels with an R302, and others over 1000rwhp with A4's.

yeah but after the machine work on the R302 {probably the a4 but i dont know much about it} they end up being roughly the same price :nice:

I had heard the same thing here.
So i asked my buddy Dwayne who owns a mustang shop, and he said that any work he has done to the R he also has done to the Dart.
Not my words, but out of the mouth of a seasoned veteran.

I had the discussion with rick too, on here. That's why i asked dwayne. I don't remember which aspect it was that the dart didn't absolutely need, but dwayne said he had it done anyway.

Between the 306 and the 347 go 347. No need to worry about a 347 unless you just go over the top with it. My daily driver is a 11:1 347 w/ 100 shot.

thats what i was getting at.
XP8- read my first god damn sentence...jesus. I said he didnt need the man o' war block (or any aftermarket block), but if he can swing FUG yea. i saw one in person and it was one of the sexiest thing i have seen.
