I was about to change my left front strut on my 89 LX and noticed that the space between the mounting bracket at the spindle was wider on my original than on my replacement. It seems that the part numbers are the same for all models 87 on up. I have changed my 96 GT's struts without any trouble and I thought that they all use the same one. Is the spindle wider on a 89 LX 2.3L or am I just imagining things?

The 4cyl got different brakes and does indeed have different spindles. You will need any 79-86 struts or 87-93 4cyl struts.

Or swap to 5.0 brakes and use the struts you have. If you have time to have the car apart while you get the parts, I'd go this route.
