i'm looking at the summit brand throttle body. my car had a summit bullet style maf on it, and it went bad. so i'm not sure if that was a fluke, or their brand is not up to par.

its a 75mm tb specifically, the price is what has me interested.

does anyone run one? any issues? i'm switching from my 70mm tb to stop the WHISTLE and to match my upper intake opening. so if they whistle, ill just buy an accufab.

from what ive seen, summit slaps their name on other companies products. summit fuel pumps are walbro for example. not sure if this is the case with TBs.

"so if they whistle, ill just buy an accufab."
if your willing to replace the potentially trash one with an accufab why not go ahead and spring for the accufab and save the trouble?

Summit doesn't manufacture anything, really. Just about every Summit-branded item they sell is just a part manufactured by some other major company, minus the packaging and the logo (or sometimes they even file/grind the logo off). It's a crapshoot as to whether or not it's a good part when you go with Summit stuff. Some of it's really good, and some of it is garbage. It depends on what un-branded part it is that they're really selling. If their throttle bodies are just knockoff Accufab TB's, then you'll be saving a few bucks by not paying for the fancy name/logo of the 100% legit Accufab TB; if it's some other crap, though, then you might just be better off by doing as suggested and just springing for the one you know for sure will work.

If we were talking about something like mufflers or X-pipes or whatever - stuff that's not really a mechanical part that can actually fail (although it might fit poorly or look a little rough) - then that'd be one thing, but something like this ... I dunno if I'd wanna risk getting a turd just to save a few bucks. I've heard their manual steering rack combo is a pretty good deal, since it's just a de-branded Flaming River setup for a lot cheaper, but some of their other stuff like some of their mufflers are made by low-end companies like Thrush.

You just gotta ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky?

i understand that they repackage. however, an accufab is almost twice the cost. i'm trying to save money on this. i read, briefly, that they are repackaged professional products tb?

i'm just looking for clarification. from what i remember reading a few weeks back, pp throttle bodies are not a bad unit. if that's the case, i save over $100.

i think all accufab tb's are polished too, i want the plain satin finish. i just removed a bbk cai cause it was shiny. i've got a no bling car.

Ive had good and bad summit parts. I bought a summit ignition box, which i am pretty sure its a rebadged mallory box, looks exactly the same and a little cheaper than the Mallory box. It works good with no problems.

Bought a summit brand coil. The first one out of the box was dead and wouldnt work. summit replaced it and the next one worked fine.

Bought a summit brand distributor, and that was a piece of crap. I dont know if it was a rebadged good unit. Mine that i got just wasnt near the quality as a stocker or a good brand. It was all loose feeling, just felt like they had a looser tolerance when making it. Also the TFI that came with it was bad out of the box, and the cap didnt clamp down very good. Car missed some and just overall ran worse with this unit. I sent it back and got a reman stock dizzy from the parts store and havent looked back.

    Thats my expierence.

Throttle bodies whistle because of the sharp edges around the IAC ports and EGR ports. If all you have is a whistle that is driving you crazy, go in there and grind down some of the sharp edges and see if it helps.

John summit sells excellent stuff, although for throttle bodies the only brand there is to buy are accufabs! You will spend the money now to buy one now then turn around later and spend twice as much for the accufab that you shoulda bought in the first place.Sell yours to cenok is family since he's offering to buy it from you and take that money and some from your pocket and get the accufab! peace

Personally speaking I have been running a summit 75mm throttle body on my car for almost 2 years and Have never had one problem with it. I was very impressed for the price.

im guessing the summit and tfs tb's are the same (should be, since summit owns tfs)? i was also looking into one of these since my bbk 65mm whistles like a sob (and is a bit small for my tastes). i know the holley tb's are crap, originally put a 70mm on before buying the bbk used, and the stupid thing would stick open no matter the cable routing.

ALL BBK throttle bodies whistle, it's their trademark. My 70mm whistled like a god damned freight train at idle. Performance was not affected at all, though, so it didn't bother me. I actually got accustomed to the whistle. For what it's worth, I've heard drilling a tiny hole in the throttle blade and lightly sanding to smooth the rough edges is the solution for curing the whistle. Obviously only a moron would do this while the TB was still attached to the intake, as metal shaving are not what you want getting sucked into your intake manifold, so removal is necessary for the fix. Whatever route you end up taking, good luck. :nice:

I've got a 75mm bbk that I'll probably sand down the edges for the Iac hole, don't want the whistle but it's a nice tb so i'm definitly using it
