Anybody know the location the oil drain should go in the oil pan? I can't find the booklet for the exact dimensions. Btw im putting it on the passenger side. Thanks
According to my Vortech manual, it should be 1 and 3/4 inches below the pan lip, and 1/2 inch back from the first bolt on the SIDE of the pan
Here you go, found the manual in PDF. Diagram on pg. 14: http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/pdf/manuals/4FA218im.pdf
you can locate the fitting anywhere you desire as long as its under the blower but above the oil level.
Ideally you want the return inline with on of the main caps, as anywhere else will drain oil into the rotating assembly and sap of you power...as well as aerate the oil. The location dictated by vortec puts the fitting directly inline with a main cap for presumably that reason.
Does the late model timing cover have the hole for the front mount dipstick? You could probably use a small NPT tap and put a fitting there if it has one. Just have to pack the flutes with grease and have the shop-vac near by to make sure shards dont get in.
The hole size is going to need to be big enough for a 3/8 NPT tap. This comes out to be 9/16" tap drill.
The fittings they use are 3/8" NPT with a 1/2" barbed fitting. The actual hose size is 1/2". The closest -AN size I believe is -10AN.
That would be -08AN, -10AN is 5/8" but 1/2" is still large,as big as the oil drainback holes in the heads and block (I didnt think they would require so much oil).
Yep, my bad. I think though it's not a matter of requiring so much oil, but attempting to keep any oil backups from occuring.
