i changed my oil last week and decided to go with synthetic. i was just wundering how many miles you go before changing it. im assuming that it must be much more than the standard 3k but would you go to 6k or more or less. thanx.
I go 5000 between changes with full synthetic. A lot of the interval depends on the engine design itself- some imports recommend up to 7500 miles between changes with synthetic. I'm not sure if the 3.8 would do well with a longer interval since it's not a DOHC and probably has higher valvetrain friction.
I never went more than 5k with full synth on my Bronco I had. On my 96 with synth mix, I would go about 4k to 5k. I just use conventional with my 04 and change it every 3k.
on both my 01 Explorer 4.0 SOHC and 03 Cobra I use Mobil1 5w30. Take them to 10K miles on oil changes and call it good..
i use casttrol magnatec fully synthetic, and go about 7000km between changes, as most of my driving is long distance.. with a liter and a quart coming in at about $80, i dont wanna do it more than nesicary, and TBH it comes out dark golden rather than black anyway... car is a 96 3.8 with 40,000 miles BTW
