Hey, I had a different thread going kinda about this, but this topic is so important it needs its own thread! I was wondering if a T-9 tranny out of a Merkur would work in my 89.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks guys

Now that I think of it, it's either a T-9 or a T-10. Hang on, i'll go check.

    EDIT - yeah it's a T-9.

The only thing I've ever heard on the T-9 is that the Mekur crowd throws them in the trash and installs a T-5.

OK, I understand that they're a POS, but I just need the car to be able to be driven. Will it work in my car? I will switch it out eventually, but I need to know if I can throw the driveshaft and tranny in my car along with the engine.

    Thanks

So does anyone know if a T9 tranny will work? And if so will the Merkur have everything I need for the swap?!

Do you already have a 5spd car? I mentioned tossing the T9 already.
Technically if a T5 can be made to work in a Merk than a T9 could be made to work in a mustang.......
however never never never never never never will you see one in mine. I want something I can slam with confidence(and not confidence that it will break)

No, right now my car is auto. But like I said, I'm not gonna beat the hell out of this car just yet. I just wanna put the T9 in there until I got enough money to put in a T5.

Anything is possible I'm sure but the best thing is to save your money and go with the T-5. If its worth doing its worth doing it right the first time around and besides that think of all the hell you would save your self from swaping gear boxes twice ;)

Like I said, I dont really have the time or money to find a T5 right now, I dont really care if I have to do a swap later, I just need this thing to run.

So does anyone know for sure if a T9 will work?

Doubt it, you'd probably have to get a custom driveshaft. There are adapters for a T5 to Merk swap, but nothing for a T9 to Stang swap. The fabrication necessary for the swap would make finding a T5 much easier and more cost effective. I pulled mine from a Turbocoupe for $100, just hit a JY and yank a T5 and you'll be good to go.

If I do that, will the Merkur have the other things that I will need for the swap? Or is there anything else I need from the car I get the T5 from?

You should be able to use most of the stuff from a TC but the Cross member needs to come from a Mustang/T-5 car. So I would try for a four banger mustang parts car with a stick if can. Now you can use a cross member from a 5.0L with a T-5 but they may go for more since they have double humps made to clear the dual exhaust.
