Hey all, I'm a new owner of an 07 GT with a manual trans. I've heard many people speaking poorly of the throttle response, which I have noticed. But upon driving the car more, I have another concern.

My throttle seems to return to idle quite slowly. Say for instance (not that I make a habit of it, but just for conversation), that I punch it in first up to 5k RPMs, put in the clutch and coast. It takes two seconds or more for the engine to return to idle. Similarly, if I let off of the gas while in gear at say 3k RPMs, the car continues at that speed. I'm used to a stick shift car where as soon as you let off the throttle while in gear, the car immediately slows down. It seems as if my throttle is very slow to close.

My question is this.... is this a normal phenomena on a car with stock tune? Have others out there noticed this as well, or should I take it back to Ford to take a look at it? Secondly, will a tune fix this issue? I haven't done the CAI/tune yet, for various reasons, but it will be my first mod down the road a bit. It isn't really a problem, just something slightly abnormal I noticed.

    Thanks in advance.

P.S.... I'm still trying to break in the car, and haven't launched it yet, but what RPM do you guys typically launch at? I'm just curious, becuase this seems to stick to the road pretty well. (17" wheels, Pirelli tires, and 3.31 gears. I know the stick should have 3.55's, but my window sticker said 3.31)

unfortunatley, this is a stock tune concern. you need to get that tuner!! it will greatly improve your concerns.

the 2007 model year changed the standard rear gear ratio to 3.31 for all cars. if it were an 05/06, then it would have the 3.55 standard. in 07, it is a $100 option.

as far as the slow down rev its for emissions purposes, thats basically it. CAI and a tune would be great.

At the track, I launch around 3k rpms and slip the clutch till about 5k rpms, then I'm off the clutch, wind out to 6.2k rpms, powershift to second till 6.2k rpms, then into 3rd, then cross the traps in 3rd around 6.3-6.4k rpms (107-109mph).

This is with the 3.55's, so it might be a little different.

Edit: The pirelli's suck at the track...mainly because they are 235's... :(

Wait a minute, so I paid 100 beaners for a 3.31? That sucks, I need to hurry up and get my 4.10's

Thanks for the replies guys.... I guess I'll just have to deal with it until I get a tune. It's really not that bad, just something slightly out of the ordinary. At least this means I don't have to take it to the dealer to check it out...:D

No, the 3.55's are an option that costs $100. 3.31's are standard in the '07.

3 or 4 times and A LOT of runs :rlaugh:

Edit: Here's the original thread I made with a little bit more info on track conditions and a video that my friend took when I made the 12.9 pass :)

correct. the 3.31 is the standard, no charge ratio. if you want a little added performance, then check the $100 option and get the 3.55s.

if you plan to swap gears eventually anyway, stick with the 3.31s.

Stock revlimiter is set to 6250 RPM and stock speed limiter is set to 145 mph.

I agree the throttle response sucks in stock form even with the 5-speed manual TR-3650. I have to practically mash down the gas just to slip the clutch to get going. It just does not feel anywhere close to being as sensitive as the cable throttle.

I hear the SCT tune fixes this problem. If anyone's got the SCT tune, how is the throttle sensitivity? Is it close or same as the cable throttle?

I've got the SCT with a Brenspeed custom tune and can't say enought good about it. It completely eliminates the drive by wire throttle lag. Sensitivity is every bit as good as or better than the cable driven throttle in my 96 Cobra. It will completely change the way the car drives. My advice is to spend the money & get the SCT from Brenspeed, even if you're not ready to get a CAI yet. It will come with 3 tunes (one for each octane rating). You can experiment with which one suits you and your wallet best. I tried them all and am hooked on the 93-octane tune. It's worth the less than $3 a tankful cost between regular & premium for the difference in performance. Total time to install will be less than 5 minutes. Brent and his crew are very customer oriented. I had a couple of questions about the install as the instructions mention removing the fuses for the fuel pump and fan, so I called them and they actually talked me through the installation over the phone while I sat in my car.

What did Brenspeed do differently in the tunes compared to SCT? I'm using the PRP so I have more flexibility in what I want to do with the car. Right now the throttle lag and lack of sensitivity is hard to get used to. If I tip in the throttle just a tad, it does nothing to increase the RPM. On a cable throttle, the same amount of tip in results in the RPM increasing.

I'm not really sure what they do. I can tell you that as soon as I touch the throttle I get immediate response. From my dealings with Brent I am sure that if you have specific questions, he would be more than happy to answer them for you. Call him @ 574-594-9559.

The tunes from SCT are basically generic tunes that are a vast improvement over stock but kinda bland generally speaking. The custom tunes are more vehicle specific, more minor tweaks to the system; that the individual who is doing the tuning has come up with from their own R & D of specific vehicles. The "custom" tune is definitely the way to go if you are looking for maximum hp.
