Hello all, i am having a wierd issue with my 2005 gt automatic. every once in a while when you come to a stop in traffic the throttle will surge once and then go back to idle. This is not a big surge, just up to 1,200rpm or so. Just enough to really get your attention if you dont have your foot firmly on the brake. I do not think this is the throttle surge that I read about on the forums because it is not a long or high rpm surge and it only does it once. Anybody have any ideas?
Sounds like throttle surge to me. Try cleaning your TB if you have high mileage the butterfly motor may be going south. Do you feel any excessive lag?
The car has 70,000 miles and has had what i consider excessive lag since it was brand new. The throttle lag on this car has always been worse than any other mustang I have ever driven, but that is not new and has been that way since 2005.
Sorry no relpy for so long but i put the car away for winter and forgot about it. Anyway there has been a few warm days here recently so the car has been driven and the surge seems to be happening more frequesntly. Now it will idle up and down until the next time you hit the gas, i can put it in nuetral and it will surge from 500rpm to about 1400rpm but once i step on the gas and let it fall back down it goes back to normal. What do you guys think is the best way to clean the throttle body?
Take the intake tube off, hold the butterfly in the wide open position. Take a rag with some throttle body cleaner and wipe it out. No need to remove it really.
Cleaned the throttle body and wow what a difference. Throttle lag is almost not there at all and my idle issue appears to be solved. Only problem was I had to go through the steps to reset the idle because after I cleaned it the idle was 1,400 RPM
