Pull your #1 spark plug and spin the motor by hand with your thumb in the hole. You'll have to have the belt removed of course. If you never get a compression stroke (tries to blow your thumb out). Then give the cam a spin. It should rotate a partial turn at a time by hand (may take some effort). Spin the motor again. Once you get compression in the cylinder, you're in good shape with the cam. Now, you'll have to spin the motor to TDC (you may have to accurately guess if you don't have the timing cover). Re-install the belt. That should be it.

Supposedly, if you draw an imaginary line from the crank centerpoint through the timing mark on the pulley it should point to the center of the aux./oil pump/dis. shaft on the right hand side of the block. Again, draw an imag. line from the center of the cam through the timing mark on the sprocket, it should point to the center of the same referenced shaft. That's all the more help I can give.

    Good luck.

Maybe buy a Haynes or Chiltons manual. $10-15 at your local parts store
