How wide of a tire can you put on stock rims on the rear of a 96 Cobra? What is the rim size (17 by ?)?

Stock wheels on a '96 Cobra are 17x8". I've got a set of 255/50/17" on mine, but I require a little more height with my car. You'd obviously go with a 45 series. You could probably go up to a 275, but it would look a little bloated out back.

Some 275's will fit and some will not fit, too wide. Different brands run different widths. I know Nittos run small and 275's will fit.

Nitto's run narrow so you can get away with a 275. I had BFG G-Force in a 275 and it didn't bulge.

I have Bridgestone 295/30 on the rear of my 96 Cobra. THEY DO NOT RUB, and my car is lowered quite a bit.

My friend has a 95 GT with 315 width tires on the rear. THEY DO NOT RUB. However, he did remove his quad shocks to fit that wide of a tire.

I say go for 295 width.

I have my doubts you can get anything larger than a 275 on a stock 17x8 rim. That is the widest I went on my stock 17x8's before going with 17x10.5's wrapped with 315's in the rear.

My mistake...I forgot to mention I have 18X10's in the rear. Guess that helps.

275 Nittos will fit the best they run small. Goodyears are huge so I wouldn't recommend a 275 Goodyear...I had that...they buldged....and I had a hard time mounting them compared to the Nittos.
