so in relation to this thread: http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/794430-too-late-stop-nephew-buying.html

the motor in the car ended up being perfect! the kid that had it heard a knocking sound which ended up being the CAI hitting the inner fender, parked it, heard a loud bang and the car died. the loud bang was the tranny exploding and locking up, not allowing the motor to start. after unlinking the tranny and getting the wheels to spin they fired up the car and it runs perfect! lol

so anyway the tranny is no good but he got the 2000 4.0 with a tranny with the car, so my question is:

can they use the 2000 tranny from the 4.0 on the 95 3.8 motor?

2000 4.0 ? That can't be a Mustang. 4.0's in 2000 were only in Explorers and maybe in a few Rangers of that year. Need to know if it was a Mustang or something else. If it was a Mustang (2000) , then it would have to be a 3.8 or a 4.6 from a GT. Please clarify this.

Yup, 4.0 V6 started in 2005 and up Mustang. Though, after driving hundreds of 4.0 Explorers and Mustangs, the Explorers always seem like they get on it quicker. Maybe just a different gear set...that or bouncy suspention.

If it's a 2000 V6, the engine and tranny will fit just fine in the 95. You'll need the PCM, wiring and the gauge cluster also. Gauge cluster has a digital Odometer that has stored mileage in the PCM. There's another guy on here doing the same type of swap, and having starting problems. I was thinking more on the lines of a PATS issue. The swap is doable, just very time consuming.

I never said the 4.0 was from a mustang. I figured it probly wasn't because I have a 2000 explorer with a 4.0, so I guess that must be what it was from.

so regardless the tranny from the 4.0 wont work with the 3.8 motor.

so its either find a tranny from a 3.8, or swap the whole set up for the 4.0. thanks guys.
