We swapped the clutch in my 96 GT and are now trying to get the tranny reinstalled. We have it pretty much lined up on the dowels but can't seem to get it flush enough with the engine to start the top bolts. The bottom to middle line up fine. It seems to be at an angle but we can't get the tail to go any higher to allow it to flush up with the top of the engine bolt holes. Any tips to getting everything to line up properly?

when i installed my trans X2 month ago, both time, tranny wouldn't push all the way up. But i started on bolts on bottom and tighten them slowly, and that pulled up perfectry.

Or you might have same issue that i had. On top of Belhousing, there is this sort of trapezoid shaped wire harness support(?) thing. When I initially installed trans, that darn thing kept getting cought between trans and block, which prevented me to push trans all the way. Infact, bottom would go, but not top, so it looked like rear wouldn't go up any higher

OK..I'll check for that wiring harness. I did get the bottom bolts on and tight but the top was still too far out of whack to get the bolts there started.

So whats the deal with Spec? I just put the stage 1 in...

You be the judge. Some knows my judgment on SPEC stuff.
Lets just say I did trans install x2 because of it

I had this problem once with my truck. I ended up using longer bolts to get tranny bolted up. Be careful, make sure you have room to use longer bolts. I bought the bolts at my local hardware store. Just take one of the old bolts with you to get the proper thread pattern. Pearl02.

I'm almost certain that we have no room. Its tight enough for right length bolt

Yea it's pretty tight. I got all of the bolts started except for the top drivers side. Any tricks to getting that one?

Is it spec that you hate or having to install your tranny twice  I am 100% satisfied with my Spec stage 3:shrug:

What i did was I looden both engine mount. and jacked up front of oil pan with 2X4 or something similer. that made my engine to tilt - it tilt alot befor u can't tilt anymore. with engine tilted and use extention i made(i think my extention was close to 3.5', i was able to get the bolt on top. Make sure that your trans bolts that you got it to start are all tight tho. You don't want to have weight of trans hanging on those bolts

Hummm. I hated the Spec, because of nasty chatter, POS TOB, and ya, having to pull trans on and off X2 - that too.
If my car was like stock, i could have done it in few hours. But becuase of my BBK LT, it turned in to a nightmare. But instead of hating my BBK for it, i brame that on SPEC - in psychology term, we called that displacement of anger

So I will pull the tranny back out of the way just to make sure I don't have that harness in the way. I'm also going to replace the pilot bearing I should ahve replaced initially. So how do I get the old one out? The Haynes said to use greese to force it out but that didn't do anything except grease the old bearing liberally.

Got everything bolted up...but...I have a vibration around 70. Not too bad but noticable. So last night on my way home I got on a deserted stretch and ran up to 120...REALLY BAD VIBRATION from about 105 on so I shut it down at 120. My concern is maybe I messed up an engine mount? Anyone ever had a mount go bad and what the symptoms are?

Also, at start-up, I get a torque feeling thump...almost like the starter is engaging after the engine begins running. I had problems getting the starter bolted up but now seems to be bolted in correctly other than this thump.

Yea...I'm going to torque them again just to make sure. I hand tightened each then, torqued them in a criss cross pattern a little at a time.
