Well I have a Steeda Triax on my 04 GT 5speed. I was getting a noise in the tranny that would go away when I pushed the clutch in. Ford said that it was not a TOB because it would only do it w/ the clutch in. Now, when I would pull on the highway in 3rd and 4th high RPM's I can hear like a metal to metal type noise. When I took the car in I put the stock shifter back on and it doesn't do these noises (or can't hear them). Were these because of the triax, or does it sound like I have a definity TOB problem? THey didn't fix anything because they couldn't hear it. I should take it back in w/ the triax and see what they hear then.
its normal to hear more tranny noise with an aftermarket shifter. what handle are you useing? if you use a rubber bushing on it like the stock one it should cut down on the noise
The metal on metal noise you heard on the highway could have been detonation from the engine, not tranny noise. If you really think it's tranny noise, then try the shifter gasket from www.shiftergaskets.com I also have a Tri Ax and ordered one of their gaskets b/c my 3650 is so loud, supposedly these gaskets will make your 3650 as quiet as stock even w/ an aftermarket shifter.
It's not detonation, you can hear and feel it in the shifter handle. It's constant, sounds like a loose bolt and washer noise. Know what I mean? I thought it was the washer from my Triax, took out the washer and it's still there
I have that noise too, i dotn think its abnormal. youre just hearing more tranny noise that was always there because you removed noise dampeners
