I have a 98 auto gt. Well the trans messed up on me this weekend. I have plans for later this summer to get an 03 mach 1 motor. Should i go with the trans that came with the motor? or just rebuild what i have? also if i go new, which trans is it. i wanna stay with the automatic!

I would use the tranny that comes with the motor. Your stock GT automatic won't hold up to the increased power and torque of the Mach 1's motor! Of course I'm assuming that the tranny that is coming with the Mach 1 motor is an automatic also, right?

I would definitely go with the transmission that comes with the Mach 1 engine. They build up those things tougher to stand up to the new HP and Torque. The stock GT auto tranny will definitely not hold up to a Mach engine. I found out that it doesn't even stand up to a lightly modified GT, when I had my '03 auto. I burned up Overdrive (4th) in that thing one night. Granted, it was in one of those moods to where I felt like hauling ass everywhere I go and ended up getting up to 140MPH a couple of times. And I suppose the 4.10 gears I had in the rearend didn't help things either. The only other things I had done were 40 serious flowmaster mufflers, K&N Cold Air, and Predator......anyways, go with the Mach tranny. :nice:

Yeah, I'd go with what they told you. It would have to be a "build up" not just a rebuild. Here's a little advertising blurb to give you some idea of what was done to the Mach 1's automatic tranny to beef it up.

"The 2003 Mach 1 will be available with a choice of a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission with electronic overdrive. The 4R70W automatic transmission is upgraded with a heavy-duty gear-set, auxiliary fluid cooler and brazed 11.25-inch torque converter to withstand the added power of the Mach 1's MOD 4.6 V-8. Mach 1 uses a new rear axle with a high-torque differential and a 3.55:1 axle ratio."

Sorry, but I have no idea about where to find one, or how much it would cost. You may want to find out from a tranny shop how much it would cost to upgrade your GT automatic to the Mach 1's specs.

I think the gearing might be better in the MAch auto. My girls MAch 1 auto runs better than any AOD I have ever driven.
