Im going to be buying a 92 mustang lx for my g/f with a 2.3l engine in it and the guy that im buying it from says it has a small lag when the automatic tranmission shifts... and he said he took it to a shop and they said its caused by a selnoid for the transmission??? Has anyone ever heard of anything like this??? I just want to make sure everything checks out b4 i buy it...

The only solenoid controlled parts of that transmission would be the 3-4 shift and converter clutch lockup. If the shifts have lag to them, that could be caused by poor or low fluid, a bad vacuum servo (fitted into passenger side of transmission and can be easily replaced if bad), a gummy valve body, or a worn out transmission. The A4LD automatic is not known for longevity, so first thing I would do is check the fluid. If it is brown or dirty (not red) you'll probably want to skip on it. If it is still red, I would maybe have it flushed and then add a transmission cooler to it. I put one on mine shortly after I got it. The stock in-the-radiator cooler just doesn't work well enough for these transmissions.
