Transmission swap

    1989 2.3L Mustang, with a automatic AOD transmission, can I swap a 4.0L Explorer AOD transmission, or do I have to swap bell housings and pumps? If I need to swap parts what a gaskets will I need? Give me any information that could help me please, Thanks.

    those trannys will not work, the 4 cylinder uses an unique bellhousing and an A4LD tranny.

    yes and no

    first off your best bet and cheapest route will be the 5 speed swap but if you want to keep you a4ld you can have your tranny guy rebuild it with the "guts" for an explorer a4ld and use your casing and bellhousing. pretty sure that can b done im sure someelse will chime in if im wrong
