Hey guys, my cousin has a 2001 Mustang (V6, 3.8L), and I wanted to get him some engine upgrades for his highschool graduation present............but, i don't know too much about what is avalible. Do you guys have any suggestions on what type of upgrades i should buy? (assume i don't have a buget) Assume i'm a noob when it comes to tech talk.............. Thanks. Conservatively, maybe 5-10 HP, except the CAI, which is more like 1-2 HP, and the 4.10s, which add none. The rear gears are among the best, if not the best, of those mods however.
i would go for the dual exhaust, for looks, sound, and a little power.. just make sure you get true duals, 2.25" or 2.5" pipes, and not something that connects to the factory y-pipe. but if your cousin is into maximum straight-line acceleration, then the gears are the way to go, but they are also the most expensive. you could also look at some lowering springs for a better stance and handling. if you go with a cold air intake, then look into getting a larger (73mm) mass air sensor and a larger (65mm) throttle body. alone they wont do much, but they are necessary for any later mods that might be made.
OK......... ...........sorry if this is a totally stupid question, but can you put a turbocharger/supercharger on this type of car? Also, what about a chip (which i know nothing about), are they worth the money?
you can get either a blower or a turbo for the car, but not for under a grand. definitely get a tuner like sct or diablo instead of a chip.
