Don't know much about the V-6ers... but have a new friend that would like to make his faster. Any suggestions? He has a 95 5 speed with dual exhaust added and a cold air intake.

Would gears help as much as they do in the 8.8s?

Yes, they would, also would a t-lok. Pulleys are good, and then you would have to do engine work to get more out of it.

Essentially all the same stuff to make a V8 faster. Gears, forced induction, forged internals, etc. The biggest change (possibly cheapest in the long run) would be a blower

I wasn't for sure if gears would be good for a non-posi rear. Or how strong that rearend would be.

Plus without a T-loc will it just make it a one wheel peel from hell and not get the car moving?

on a 95 have a compression and leakdown test done before any mods. they are known for head gasket failure.

the 95 3.8 can really be worked over.

    checkout
    www.supersixmotorsports.com
    www.rpm-mustangs.com
    www.moranav6racing.com
    www.velocitymustangperformance.com

there are others that make great parts for the 3.8 stang but these 4 are in my book are the best

    also have him try
    www.v6power.net
    and
    www.3.8mustang.com

there are alot of guy's on these 2 sites with alot of experience with the 3.8

i have a 98 3.8 with an ATI 11psi procharger on it with 3.73's,T-lok,TA performance 7.5" girdle 4R70W with shift kit

and going on soon .030" ross 8.5:1 pistons,Eagle 351W rods, RPM can with 215/230 dur@.050" lift .514" intake lift/.545" lift exhaust (1.8 rocker)
lightly ported heads, MAC offroad H-pipe with Random technology cats welded in,42lb injectors,Pro-M Univer MAF calibrated for the 42's, SCT chip custom burned for my combo by velocity mustang perf

i should have about 325rwhp when it's done. i have about 260rwhp and 285ftlbs now but i lost compression on #6 so it getting rebuilt.

both ATI and Vortech make nice blower setups but they need injectors, fuel pump, MAF, and chip to make the combo reliable

also there many guy's making custom turbo kits for the 3.8.

it is a good engine with as much potential as the buick V6

    http://www.3.8mustang.com/performance/ look at this.

www.3.8mustang.com has some good info. your friend has the same setup as me basically. i have a 5 spd. 95 with a 2000 engine and dual pipes. i just did a half shaft and a little porting on the lower intake. next i am putting a homemade cai/ram air on it and i am ordering a 190 lph fuel pump tomorrow. this is my daily driver and it is broke, it needs the pump.

yeah it's not bad but it needs rebuilt

here's a pic of my first dyno graph with no tune,FMU with stock 14lb injectors and MAF
    http://www.mustangmods.com/data/8456/pics.2.jpg
225rwhp and 267 rwtorque is pretty good for no tune

i got 262rwhp and 286 rwtorque after a tune but still wasn't the right setup to be reliable. i can't find the damn dyno graph for it though after i moved into my new house

here's a pic of my engine bay

here's a pic of the MAC pipe and cats

the 3.8 has alot of potential and can be built just like a buick. it just takes money

I'm very envious. I want your set up, thats on the stock engine with 10 psi. You suppose thats what pushed it over the edge? To much boost?

With nothing but the addition of a V2-SQ @ 7psi, I have managed to add almost 65rwhp so far and thats with alot more tuning bugs still to be worked out. I confidently say it has another 15 rwhp left in it as is once we get around the upper rpm problems we are having.

    i was actually seeing 12psi boost@5200rpm

the reason it gave way is because i ran it with the FMU and "self tune" for 40,000 miles

the best way to go is get the 42 lb injectors, univer MAF,Chip and get an ari/fuel reading from a dynotune to make sure the chip is correct and don't even use the FMU.

a tuned singleport with 42's,univer,160l/hr pump and chip will make 260-275rwhp.

mine will be 325rwhp when i'm done rebuilding it with the cam and ported heads. more power lies in the intake too. i am already working on an EFI Spyder Style intake using a 2bbl 3.8 intake,2.3L upper and massive runner re-working with a 65mm or 70mm fox T-body.
here's a pic of the idea but with a buick 4bbl manifold for the pic. the ford will be longer but about the same height

that's the beauty of the 3.8. the injectors are in the heads so intakes can be made as wild as you can imagine without having to worry about injector bungs getting in the way
