Saw it on the way to class: 2-door hardtop, "dual" exhaust, SVT badge on the trunk, Cobra emblem on the drivers side, it also had Cobra lettering and a stripe on the drivers and passenger side rocker panel.

My roommate has a '99 GT that looks just like a '99 Cobra except for the taillights. It also has '01+ headlights. So a trained eye would know it's not a Cobra but it fools other GT owners.
He bought the car that way, and doesn't like the clone idea. We're currently working on modifying '66 GT badges to fit the car to replace the snakes. They should look awesome when we're done.:nice:

It's gonna look sweet. Those badges on the 99-04's suck anyways. Why do you have to modify them?

Classic badges are held in with pins. We want to use two-way tape. So we have to cut the studs off. But then we have to deal with the fact that the badges are hollow on the back. I think I have an idea to fill them in, but we haven't tried it yet.

If it works, the plan is to replace the snakes with those, and the SVT badge will be replaced by an Explorer V8 badge(the 30's style V8).

Oh, and yea the '99-'04 GT badges totally suck. Must've been designed by the same idiot that designed the 15x7 rims on my '01.:notnice:

Either you just have a V6 because of economical reasons

    OR

    You just love V6s.
But I don't see the logical reasoning for spending big bucks on making a V6 try to perform like a V8 or in this case looking like one. Why not just spend that cash on the V8 to begin with.
    Just my opinion.

Well...people like modding v6s. Myself for example, I'd of course rather have the V8 any day of the week. But when I bought my v6, not only did I not know much about cars, I didn't even know all the different kinds of mustangs.
And I only got it (its an 03) cause they were having a huge rebate that ended putting the price of the car at 13,000.
Now, all I have is exhaust and intake (performance wise). Well, lol, performance, probably didn't change anything. The intake is pointless, the exhaust just makes it sound a bit better. But you see what happened, I got the car, and whenever I saw something I liked I just put it in the car. Like the rims for example, I have bullits, but the only reason is because some guy once offered them to me for $400 with tires and everything, so I just got them, but I would've never gotten them otherwise.
I also have a GT hood, which I would never even have thought of putting on my car, but there was a GT guy who wanted my 03 hood for the "cobra look" so I just took his, I was happy as hell. I like it much better with the scoop.
But do you get my point?
Never even crossed my mom that I'd be putting anything on my car, but it just happened.
And I'm willing to bet there's a lot of V6 owners who basically end up just like me. But I still can't afford to get the V8, this little amount of work has been done over the past 2 years.
And then there's just the people who like modifying the v6 as more of a challenge than the V8.
This subject has been discussed so much I don't even know why I'm saying all this, but whatever, like you said, giving my opinion

Unless you want a car for collecting purposes, buying a V6 is the cheapest way to go if you plan on tearing it down and rebuilding it (not using a 302). Of course the VIN won't match with the car anymore, but oh well. ;)

I orginally bought my 'stang back in the day when I knew very little about cars. I got it because it was a Mustang and thought it was hot **** regardless of engine size. 232ci? What does that mean? Now it serves as a cheap base for a project car. It's still my daily driver so I'm having to build up to the engine and drivetrain swap until I have alternate means of transportation.

Right, I though that they had those pins and that you had to cut them off and use double sided tape. I didn't know they're hallow. How are you going to fill it in?

I think alot of people on her got there V6's without the intent to do much to it and then they got bit by the mod bug. When I got my V6, I didn't really know much about mustangs overall. The reason I didn't know with a GT was because the insurance would skyrocket. Two 17(at the time) year olds driving would raise it like hell(at the time I was paying around $2300 for a year with an not well known insurance company).

Even though I was paying, my parents refused to help me get a GT, and I didn't want to pay $40,000 in intrest on a $9000 car. Insurance isn't bad, I'm listed as primary driver of the 79 vette (which runs mid-15s to my stock mid 16s wtf) and it's alot lower than even my 4 banger (runs like 20m I think).

tell that to turbo buick guy's. we don't try to make our cars perform like V8's we try to make our cars perform period

the ford 3.8 was a modified copy of Buicks stage1 3.8/231 which became the basis for the Grand National. ford eliminated Buicks design problems and wound up with a very durable engine that take mods readily and rewards with big power gains.

your mentality why waste your money on anything but a V8. i guess 2.3L turbo guy's are nuts too. there are alot more powerplants out ther worth building than a V8 and alot of V8's that are not worth building too

Sure stock for stock a GT is a much better performer as it should be ,it has 2 more cyl's.But for the money a V6 is the way to go.Example:.When i bought my car in 98 it was stickered at 16,500 a GT was at 21,500.Thats $5000 difference.Could spend that 5000 on the 6 and have what you would have had spent on the GT and pretty sure would be able to out perform a stock GT.And sure you could mod a GT and get more performance than the modded 6,But would have that much more in the car..Like you said just my opinion.

And the badges would be nice on the car..Always nice to see something diff on a car, instead of all of them looking basically the same.

I'd take the GT and not mod it all.
I rather have a stock GT than a modded V6, personally.
    Again...all personal preference.
I'm just sick of doing crap to my car, it just brings more problems.
And I don't want anyone to come back saying that if the job's done right then there shouldn't be any problems, I know its true. But it'll still bring more problems than if its left stock. (Of course I mean if the maintance is done properly)
I will never again mod an every day car, the only way I would do work to a car is if its not a daily driver.
I'd love to do it as a hobby with a second car and just keep taking the car to the track.

I understand that..Different strokes for different folks...I can complain one bit about my car.I bought it new somewhere around the end of 98.I done mechanic work for close to 15 yrs so i do all the maint. and upkeep on my cars.Done all the servicing on it and nothing been in it but synthetic oil.The car has never broke down or give me any trouble.I have mods done to it but no real major ones.Havent spent nowhere near that $5000 on it.It runs pretty good for a pre 99..it has a 373 gear now,i ran it with a 345 in it and got a 10.20 in the 1/8 out of it,should do a little better with the 373.But eventually goin to a 410 gear
