I know this is not the right forum but I know some of you guys have more then one stang. I found a 90 notch vert 4 banger for sale near by. The top will need replaced at some point does anybody know what that would cost? 50resto has one for like 350 is that about the going rate for tops?

Do we even have a forum that has notch 4 bangers? I thought we did but all i find is v6.

I never heard of a notch 'vert before, is it a hard top convertible?

LOL! I guess you meant a 2.3 LX 'vert. I too don't know what a replacement top would cost, but I'll need to find out soon as mine is starting to go.

convertibles are convertibles, coupes are called 'notch' because it looks like a notch had been taken out of where the hatchback normally is. With a convertible, there's no structural top at all to have been 'notched'.

Anyway, go to 5.0 Talk and look around. Costs vary of course but you can expect anywhere from $500-1000 for a full material-supplied replacement depending on where you go.

    thanks for the clarification.

I found a few on ebay for around 250 and a glass rear window one for 295. I posted in the 2.3 forum and a member over there has been helpful. He says it will be slow lol but what do I expect outta a gas saver.

I think I'm gonna call the guy up and look it over more and hear it run and try to take it for a spin. The guy is asking 2350 which is not gonna happen. I'm thinking 1500 at the most. Be like this is what I got how bout it

You can pick up 4-cylinder Fox convertibles cheap all the time, so don't let the guy's price dictate your spending if you don't really HAVE to have the car.

But regarding the top, the expensive part is the labor because it's a very precise installation. You can get replacement tops for even around $165 I think. I know at least one shop around here that wants $700 for installation not including any materials!

They are not that good on gas either. I had a '90LX 2.3L 5 speed and it got in the low-mid 20's which for 100hp is pretty pathetic. If your looking for mileage, find an old escort GT or something similar.

I got my top for $450 included heated glass back window and bow pads & cables (two sets) I got lucky and found a guy who put it on for $400! Try to find a local hod rod paper for your area! you might find an installer who really knows his stuff and doesn't rip you off! The guy I used name was provided by a guy who builds custom bikes (gets his seats made by him)

    Good luck!

i got my top, pads and cables installed for 750. Ive never put one on but from what ive read its not a job for a weekender, take it to a pro that knows what their doing. and remember, the labor will cost the same for a junk top as a good top, check the weight of the material and the rep of the instaler :)
