I am looking into getting a new back window for my 89 vert which doesnt have one at the moment, and i was leanign towards glass. The installation doesn't look that difficult but it would be nice to have some instructions or pics of how to do it just in case, thanks!!
hehehe you dont wanna do it yourself. I work in an auto upholstery shop and we do vert tops.to put the window in properly you have to take the top off, completely, and to take it off and put it back on you need some special tools that you cant get at the local tool and parts store. and doing it without taking the top off you will over look some important parts and the top WILL leak. you would be better off takin it to a pro and letting them do it, and you can expect to leave your car at the shop for a 3 day minimum . if the guy at the shop says he can do it in less than 3 days dont let him do it. he would be cutting corners and that sacrifices quality. which is something you serriously dont need on a vert top cause it will leak like crazy, and typically the glass window costs about 2 to 3 hundred dollars more than plastic, but it is better than plastic due to the fact the plastic gets scratched like crazy and fades from clear to a very dull cloudy gray it also wrinkles.
wow, i wasnt expecting it to be that difficult, i need a new top anyway, but i was going to just do the window now and the top later but it seems liek if theyhave to take the top off anyway i might as well just wait to do the window until after my paint job wheni had planned to do the top
personal opinion if you're painting it black i would put a black top on it. what color is your interior? if it's gray paint your car black with gray trim with a gray top and it will pop like crazy
thats the plan, the new top will be black, right now the interior looks like this : the car is red now, but the interior needs to be redone anyway ALLLLL of it
wow that looks great. i gotta change my opinion about that red car white top and do thet dash top in white....but its your car. and would look great either way you go with it.
that was just an example of whta myinterior looks like, i WISH mine looked liek that here's the real deal: As you can see everything will need to be replaced, the interior parts themselves are not broken or anything just faded and nasty looking, so mayeb ii'll post in the future about painting/staining them, i'm not sure baout how to do that, i'm going to do the black racing seats in the front, but i dunno what to do with the back seat, but like most people i have a limited income and can only do so much at once and right now the priority is a paint job and top before winter. The interior will be second, as you can see the only thing i've bought for it is a shifter knob
i know how and would gladly teach you. but thats a conversation best left to a tellephone, and that looks like water damage, if it is you may be replacing more than seats and a dash. cause the floor pan may be rotted. and since you are appearently neaw to interior work, you can add me to any messenger you have i.e. yahoo or msn messenger, and ill help you as much as i can along the way, because if you get a shop to do all the work you are gonna be looking at thousands of dollors of work that just isnt worth it. one example is the seat covers, you will spend a minimum of 200 bucks a piece on the seat covors and i can teach you how to make your own replace ment, and i dont mean the kine you get at wal mart i mean an exact fit stock replacement that you have to take the seat out and the seat back of to put on. so like i said if you are intrested in learning i will teach you for free casue i know how much you will spend and i know ho bad you will be getting screwed if you pay it.
