Last night I raced an 06 GT from a stop. He pulled up next to me when I was at a light. He rolled his window down and yelled something to me. I looked over to see a guy with his girl to the right of me. I rolled my passenger side window to hear him complimenting my car. He said it sounded nice. He asked if I wanted to go on green all the way to the next light which was approx. 1/4 mile down the street. I said sure... why not? I reved it up to about 3500 as I saw the opposing light for the other street turn yellow. On green, I dumped it and took off on him. He kept with me about 1/2 car length behind until I hit 3rd, then I began to walk him. I continued to pull on him all the way to 100mph, then I cut off. He was about 5-6 car lengths behind me when I let off. He continued to follow me all the way to the next gas station where I gassed up. He got out of his car and complimented my car even more by saying he did not expect me to pull as much as I did. I had two other guys in the car with me, so there was another 350-400lbs. My car is also a heavy vert . Just felt like sharing because I haven't posted in a while..... :SNSign:
Is it just me or is the 06 gt underpowered. GM and DCX both have stock small blocks that put out right at 400+/- and ford is only rated at 300??
I got matched up with an (the same as a few weeks ago ) 05 GT convert 5-spd @ the track 1/8th. Ran him about 6 times. This night, last Friday I was on my game and got him every time. My hole shots were good that night. My best R/T was a .018 dont remember the rest of the run. I had 2 times in the 9.3's and the others were no higher than 9.5. I think I ran like 10 times that night. Not bad considering my low mod's. Needless to say I drove off smileing. Then that Sunday I paired up with that driver @ a golf tournament. Iv'e known him since highschool so we had some good conversation on the golf course.
Underpowered... nah, I don't think so. Overweight? Maybe, but that's the price you pay for the all the refinement that makes these new late model cars the pleasure that they are to drive. Edit: To the original poster. nice kill!
Why does everyone say that the new GTs are so heavy? They are only 300lbs heavier than an 87-93 GT? Most of that is probably all of the new crap (leather power seats, stereo, insulation, beefier chassis, bigger brakes, etc..) All 5spds: 93 GT - ~3180lbs 05 GT - ~3480lbs 06 GTO - ~3725lbs.
Nice. I walked a vert 06 GT 3 weeks ago at Maple Groove. It was a girl driving an automatic convertible GT. She had a helmet on but it looked completely stock. After I launched (which i suck at) i never saw her again. My buddies watching said she was a few car length behind and my lead kept gaining...sweet. the rest of the evening I got my ass handed to me by everyone else so atleast I felt good about that.
I seemed to pull more thru the middle of 2nd gear, then from there on it was pretty dern close. My R/T was pretty good that night best was at .018. but I was still turning faster times. I know time doesn't start untill you leave. I did leave the track with a bigger smile than usual. This was the second night that I ran this car, 1st night I had some serious traction issues. I thought it (05) was gonna be much quicker. Well quicker than what it was anyway. Nice kill.
I just feel that ford could bump it up a notch. for the same price as a GT I could jump into a Hemi charger or an LS2 goat which weigh just as much as the mustang and still run harder. in the next couple of years the challenger and camaro will be released, I can only hope that ford can meet the competition with something other than a pretty face.
First of the GTO's are already going out of production for a reason, and they need that extra 100 horse to get that FUGLY pig moving. you are comparing apples to oranges...for teh money the new GT is still the best bang for the buck fun car...rwd v8 Nice kill! to the original poster.
You can get a GTO for $26,xxx with a decent amount of options??? Cool! They are proven 13 second cars. Ours went 13.9 a month or two ago and on the same day my dads 91 went 12.2. This past race with just better weather my dads car went 12.0, to give you an idea, and the conditions were still not great track conditions. Definately a nice kill!
i think the GTO's sound badass with a good exhaust on it... but damn i didnt think they weighed that much..
My grandfather bought the first 05 Mustang GT that hit the Showroom here... He imediatley came over to my house to show it off... then said he car was twice as fast as mine and ask if I would like him to prove it. So, I said yea. Long story short, by the end of second gear I had 3 cars on him and by the top of third it was about 6 cars. I felt really bad since this was the first new car he ever bought (was a retirment present to himself). He also really believed it was faster than my car (I guess he didn't realize what that thing under the hood labeled *vortech* was either). BUUT, now he has a Kenne Bell sitting in the garage waiting to go on. Im sure I'll be screwed after that.
