I just got home tonight and went to pick up a couple papers I had laying on the passenger side floor and I noticed they were soaked. I then felt the floor mat and it too was soaked, and along with the carpet. Now it wasnt just wet, it was like someone poured a gallon of water on my floor. When i pressed down on the carpet the water rose out of the carpet by about half an inch. I am very pissed now, what the hell is that!!! It rained like a mother all day yesterday, and my windows were definatly up, and besides the door panels didnt have one water spot on them. I pulled the carpet up and started drying the floor and to my surprise I found a bolt just sitting there doing nothing. I couldnt find anywhere it might have came from, I am baffled. All of the carpet and padding was soaked, water was just dripping out of it. The padding was soaked all the way from the base of the seat to the firewall. One thing I did find was that when I took a flashlight and shined it up underneath the car, I could see the light coming through along the drivers side kickpanel. The light came right through where the kickpanel clips into the metal. Im not sure if it was coming in there or not? Anybody hear of this? Now for my other problem, the dealership that I bought it from is an hour away, but I have a dealership right next to my house. Will they check out my car or are they going to be pickey about it because it wasnt bought from them?
Not a clue about the water. Dealers all have to treat you like you bought it there. If not, talk to a manager.
Water You might check the windshield cowl drain(front of the windshield). Some time the drain will clog with dirt, leaves etc. and when water gets high it will come in through the heater intake. Just my idea.
I have seen this happen to quite a few car models when the rain gets really bad. Usually the setup is the car is in heavy rain with the front of the car at a reasonably steeper incline than flat ground. Say a driveway in front of a garage on a slope. With the car point upwards... My wifes car did that and we back her car in the driveway now. Exact problem as you describe it... A good water removing shopvac is a good solution for the problem... The dealer might be able to help you find your actual problem though... As mentioned above, they have to help you as if you bought it there. It does them good anyways as they will make the Ford servicing dollars and not where you bought it.... So you and they win...
*UPDATE* I pulled the cowl cover off and the drain was not clogged, I could see to the ground. I discovered, however, that the drivers side floor is soaked also!?! This leads me to believe that either the automatic roll up window function isnt calibrated correctly or water is coming in through the transmission area. This sucks, now I have to let my car dry out all day so I dont get milldew.
On the several cars I have seen this issue with (All GM / Chrysler Cars) the water was always coming in throught the firewall... Unless you were in a flood, I could see the water coming in the transmission area. The entry is usually via the fresh air intake for the A/C under the hood on the Pasenger side and will travel the length the interior of the car via the floor boards...
Could it be a heater core leak? I had a car with the same symptoms a while back and the heater core, which was mounted on the inside of the firewall, was leaking.
The exact same thing used to happen in my '99 GT convertible. Any time it would be outside in a really hard rain, the driver and passenger side floorboards would be soaked. I always assumed it had something to do with it being a convertible, but I never saw any water leaking in, and it was never wet anywhere but the floorboards. Seemed odd to me that nothing higher up was getting wet. Maybe it wasn't the drop-top that was the problem after all.
I have the same problem and my new stang is sitting at the dealer right now. I noticed that the water is leaking through a rubber grommet that a conduit goes through on the frame on both the driver's and passenger's side - above the fuse box on the passenger's side. OK this may not be the same as your problem, and it's embarrassing as h**l, but I'm going to come clean on it. I guess I deserve whatever I've got coming to me on this: woke up one morning and went out to start the car to warm it up before leaving for work (upstate NY). Both windows were down and the car was full up to the center console with snow! Turns out I must have leaned up against something with the remote in my back pocket long enough to open the windows (which, of course, I had no clue was even an option: word to the wise - RTFM). So you might want to ask any kids or other dangerous family members if they played with the remote and then pulled a cover-up. Oh heck, just blame them anyway! lol
That couldnt of happened in my case because that feature was disabled from the factory....at least it was snow that filled the car and not rain!
This is a quote from another Mustang forum: Now, the note of caution. I was supposed to pick this car up yesterday. However, when I got there, the remote key fobs wouldn't work. The mechanic who looked at it immediately (I hadn't even driven it off the lot at this point) found water in the passenger side footwell. It turns out that the cowl panel on the front passenger side has sealing washers (part number 9FOAM0) underneath the trim pins which were not sealing (the washers, that is). This allowed water to leak into the passenger compartment directly over the SMART module which controls most of the cars on-board electronics. It shorted out only the remote key fob function. They dried me out immediately (it was the predelivery wash that got water in, so it hadn't been sitting for a long time), tightened the washers, applied sealant compound, overnighted a new SMART module, and now everything works. Everyone, you may want to have this problem checked out, because if it leaks here, it is right over this computer module, which if it shorts out for you may cause more than just the key fob to malfunction.
This afternoon I noticed that I have tons of water on my passenger side. It rained for a few days in a row here.. I am pissed, Im bringing it to the dealership tomorrow to complain. I have found another person with a 05 vert that has the same problem. I am ganna give them hell tomorrow!
Why are you going to give the dealer hell? They didn't build the vehicle or cause the water leak. I think you will get better service if you treat the dealer with a little respect. Now, if they screw up your car while it is in there or don't fix the problem; then I think giving them hell will be justified.
I feel your pain! I have mine in right now for a nasty water leak into the trunk from below the convertible top! 3 rd time in and still not resovled.
