if you've got dsl in the house and a modem, all you've got to do is get a wireless router and plug it into your modem

should cost around ~$50-70 i'd say for the router

you said the laptop has wireless "capability", does that mean it has an integrated card or not? if it doesn't, you'll have to buy a wireless card for that too

hmm, i'm not really a networking guy... there was actually a thread about routers the other day

i'd stick with any G rated router, should be good enough

I'd say Linksys all the way. D-Link is decent for the price, but Linksys makes a far superior product (i've owned stuff from both companies).

Also, when you're setting up the network. Set up a key and password so that people don't easily leach your internet connection from you (ever heard of war driving).

LinkSys and DLink are by no means the best routers, but they are unbeatable for the money. I recommend LinkSys.

Definitely go with a Linksys wireless router. One of the cheaper ones should work perfectly for you. You can get them at Wal-Mart, Circuit City, or just about any other place that sells computer stuff. Or if you can wait a couple days, www.newegg.com will probably be cheaper.

How far is your room from the dsl modem? If there's 4 or 5 walls between the two, or if it's more than 100-150 feet, you may run into signal problems with the wireless.
