I have a friend that has a 99 Cobra and he has had it for about for four years now. He found out that his car never had the recall done to his car about a year ago. He has tried to get the car fix but they tell him that the car has to be under warranty. So he is adamant that his car is effected by the intake manifold. Right now he has X-pipes, a flash tune, and 3.73 gears. We have raced a few time now (my car is stock) and a year ago he would pull me every time we raced (by a car or two). He has not really raced for a year now and i have been win in all of our races and he has been crying that his car has never got fix (he feels like he has been giving it his all in these last few races). I think that he is just not use to his car after so long.

My question is that do any of you think that his car was effected by the recall? And about how much hp should he be running to pull me and for his mods?

A recall is something the manufacture does to protect not only the company but the customer. It sounds like the dealer may have denied his vehicle for the mods or have him try another dealer?

It is indeed too late to have Ford perform "the fix" for free. Since he already changed the exhaust, all he has to worry about is the intake (and perhaps a re-tune).

At this point, it isn't worth it to pay Ford to pay for the entire "fix." The original "fix" consisted of new intake, new catback, and PCM re-flash.

Run a search for various keywords on Google and on the forums for: "1999 cobra horsepower recall / fix / etc" and you should be able to pull up some helpful information for your friend.

If he were to locate a post '99 model year intake on Ebay or some other classified/for sale forum, he should be OK (getting a flash/PCM retune wouldn't hurt either).

    G'luck.

Ok thanks guys i will tell him the info.
But do you think that he would beat me if his car was effected by the intake. I know how to drive my car okay.

    Huh?

Not exactly sure wtf you are trying to say/ask.... He would pull on you meaning he beat you, but hes crying because "I win all our races" ???

Anyway, as far as how you would do in a race...What exactly are you driving? A Mustang? Corvette? Civic? Year? um yeah.

Your friend should either get his intake ported an polished or purchase one. His non fixed intake is prolly costing him around 5-6 hp and similar numbers for torque. Tell him not to sweat it.

Here is a graph showing what all 3 parts of the "fix" netted together.

The 99 Cobra Fix consited of: Lower intake, catback and reflash of the EEC.

One test showed these results (your results may vary)

Power before the fix = 259.3. Power after the fix = 274.6
    Torque before = 276.3. Torque after = 285.9
