I used Turbotax to do mine. Its very simple and can point out if you have anything that can be deducted..

As for mine, its going towards Cobra front brakes :nice:

Turbo Tax is great. It will run an error check to make sure you did everything right too. If you messed up somewhere, it will take you back to that line, and you can correct it.

My bf went to Jackson Hewitt last night to get his done. This is our first year owning a house (we rented for 3 yrs), and I didn't want to do his and take the risk of screwing up. I had done them on TurboTax already, just hadn't sent them in yet...but I was unsure if we were getting back what we should be, with this being our first full year in the house.

The lady at JH actually let him deduct all 3 of his vehicle taxes, and our property tax on the house too (even though it's escrowed into our house payment already). So she was able to get us back like $200 more than I had figured on TurboTax for him. Next year I will just do his on TurboTax when I do mine. They didn't get us enough extra to bother messing with them, and paying $116, when I can do it way cheaper myself.

when people do it it like H&R block and stuff...you pay them for their service...right? So its cheaper to do it yourself...

I also use TurboTax... myself, my uncle, and my dad just split the cost of it so it ends up being like 9 bucks a piece, and providing you have all your paperwork in front of you, it takes about 30 minutes from start to finish.

    Yes I am,

I just tried TurboTax, I got a total of .52 more then when I did it on the 1040EZ. My Federal income tax withheld was only 12.52, and that sounds really low compared to my other years. Granted, I only worked 5 months of the year and made a total of 2401.00 (without cash tips, which is where waiters like myself make our money.) I guess I only get $13 back this year? This sucks!

I went up a tax bracket this past year ..... and my W-4's were not set up for this. I had no idea how much I was going to make because my pay fluctuates (in a way). I owe this year. :bang:

Alright... Just to help everybody out who hasn't already paid to have people do their taxes.

Go to www.irs.gov from there go to the link (check out free file). This is intended for people making 50,000 or less. There is like 15 different companies to choose from including Turbo Tax offering ABSOLUTELY FREE tax file service.

On there is the link to the FREE turbo tax service which i have used for the last 4 years now. Extremely easy to use. I have went directly to turbotaxes website without this link and i didn't see anything about offering it for free. (guess its bad business to openely offer stuff for free when you can get people to pay for it)

I electronically filed and used direct deposit and got mine back in 6 days this year.

Drawback is if you want your state taxes done too through them then you have to pay. I personally just printed off my fedral and plugged everything into my state tax (which had free website, efile, and direct deposit).

Just follow the instructions in your tax form booklet. There's not really any 'trick' to getting more money back unless you have a very complicated financial situation like muliple incomes, sales, investments, donations, political contributions, energy efficiency deductions, kids, 401k etc etc.

But for someone like me, not married, one income, nothing else, you are wasting your money by going to H&R Block or buying software. I just did mine today, it took maybe 20 minutes  people make it out to be hard when it's actually setup so a retard can do it right.

I used TaxAct this year. It's free to use and free e-file(no rebate, 100% free), for your Federal Returns, you unlucky folks with State Income Tax will have to buy that segment. Just like moneypit94, my money was deposited in 6 days!!! :nice: It interviews you like someone from H&R Block. Though I was puzzled when the text said "Are you blind?":jester:

I've used Turbo Tax in previous years, both do the normal error checks. TaxAct won me over with the free software and free e-filing.
