My 460 head unit got jammed and I took it to a local shop today. They said they couldn't fix it without breaking the unit and i needed a new unit, said they see this kind of thing all the time...well I got a kenwood kd 135 or something like that and now my once rich, sweet, sounding system sounds like a f**king am radio...no bass, and if I turn it up it sounds all gargled...what to do folks? They threw my old unit away. Do I need to get another head unit? This one is 200 watts, is that not powerful enough or something? What aftermarket head units do you recommend? I want it to sound like my 460 used to...better if possible but just getting back to where it was would be fine...help!
This is the only thing I can find that should work, but I can't verify if it'll work for an 03. I read something about the 03 having a different system, but then it was also mentioned that the speaker system is the same from 95-04. Possibly a different harness at the stereo, so the plugs may be different? Might take a little effort in changing wires around? Not sure what's involved, since I eliminated my Mach460 about 4-5 years ago and went with aftermarket components.
Contact Metra they make plug and play Harness' specifically for the 460 system. Just tell them what year and mention it has the 460 and they'll reply with the correct harness part number shouldn't cost you more than $20. They usually respond to emails the same day. http://www.metraonline.com/contact.aspx It sounds like when they did your install the bypassed the factory amps.
sounds like they bypassed the mach amps and plugged the speakers directly to the H/U as mentioned above, find yourself an adapter from METRA or Scosche, and sometimes the only way to get something done right is to do it yourself...
The Metra part # for Mach 460 is a 70-5519. Should sell for under $25. If the shop installed this for you, they didn't do something right. It should sound good even with a KDC-13*. I have sold lots of those head units and never had a problem with it. Hope this helps. Paul
