I have a '69 Mach 1 that I'm working on. It is in the very early stages of restoration. No cosmetic items have been done but the frame, brakes, and suspension are all good. The dilemma comes with the fact that I just accepted a new job in another state and now have to move the money pit. That would be fine an dandy except that it has no wheels! I have the TCP coilover front suspension and put Bear Track front and rear brakes on it, thus necessitates 17" minimum rims. I'm thinking 17x8s in the front and 17x9.5 or 17x10 in the rear. (I will roll the fender lip.) I am looking at several sets of rims an would like your opinion on which ones y'all like. If there are other options for not buying wheels right now, I would love to hear 'em. I thought about going to the local hubcap annie, but they want 200 for a set of 4 spares. I just can't justify spending money like that on something that I know I'll have to get rid of in a little bit. Oh yeah, if anyone has some photochopping skills, I would appreciate it very much to see some of these transposed onto a pic of a mach.

Umm, may I also suggest Boyd's magneto's? I like em, or maybe the 99-04 bullits (i'm getting those soon) They're abundant and cheap. Only thing I don't like about torq's are that they're EVERYWHERE! They look great but still they're everywhere, just my opinion.
I know the Torq, thrusts are everywhere, but I still like 'em. They are the last on that short list because they are so abundant, that't one reason I don't have the Junk Yard Dog on the list. As far as the Magneto's go.....eh, they're okaaaaay.

The first set are very close to the 16's I'm looking at for placement on our '73 Cougar XR-7. Still trying to decide if I like the one's you pictured (can't remember the name) or the "blasted/polished aluminum look (Vintage Wheelworks' Vintage 50's) That style just looks kewl.
The ones pictured are the american racing Cobra 427s. I like them, but have never seen a pic of a classic mustang with them. Can Anyone tell me if spacers are a smart (safe) thing to do? There are some other rims that I like out there, however I would need ~1.5" spacer to make them fit. BOSS Motorsports 318 in Black Chrome (Too bad they only come in 8" width on 17s)
Oh yah Boss's are really nice, I like the 304s in their super finish but they're $$$ and huge This is the closest to the 427s that I could find, they're Vintage wheel's 60s
THANKS!! I know the AR Cobra 427s will be a little different, but now that I see that rim on a classic stang, it just doesn't do it for me. Man, the rim websites out there are total Crap. The search mechanisms in there need to take into account bolt patterns and offset. Some engines will do one, but not the other. Then there are some that just don't work. Although it took forever, this rim came up at about 880 out of 1102 rims at some website that I can't remember the name of now. I know it's a truck rim, but it has the correct bolt pattern and backspacing! Yeah, Yeah, I know the pic has 6 lugs on it. Ultra Wheel - T6 Type 260 What do y'all think!
Umm, I wouldn't IMO they're way too flashy and modernized. But I think thats just me. Try getting a wheel chop from the virtual body shop. Do they come in the 5 spokes? if so maybe. But I have my eyes set on 99-04 bullits, they look like the torq thrusts but bigger and IMO a tad nicer especially with the mustang emblem inside and they're relatively cheap compared to the other rims out there. I like the boss's a lot though
extreme offset? The guy at PerformancePlusTire said that the 17x10s I plan for the rear has a real extreme offset and he would not recommend them for my car. I measured my car and this seems like it would be perfect. Which one of us is correct? Diameter: 17" Width: 10" Backspacing: 4.5" Offset: -25mm Boltcircle: 5x4.5
Hmm, When I went to a rim shop they told me the same thing, a 10" in the back may cause problems and they don't recommend it
I made this little wooden thingy that tests the different rim widths and tire sizes. There didn't seem to be a problem at 17x10. Can anyone shed some light as to what this guy was talking about?
Actually, I like those rims - but not for the Cougar (or your Stang); because they just look like truck rims to me. I've seen them on an '03 Lightning in town; and I'm thinking they'd look great with some Wrangler AT/S tires on my F150 4x4. IMHO, the AR Cobra 427 rims look better than the Vintage 60's; because of the charcoal powder-coating vice the "blasted aluminum" surface. My favorite is still the Vintage 50; not quite as "busy" as either of the above. My other choice would be the '92-'98 factory "Turbine" rims that were optional on Crown Vic's and Mercury Marquis'. Either style looks good without shouting "I'm not just a fat-Cat muscle car wannabe" More of a refined-sleeper look. My only issue with the 16" Ford/Merc rims is that I've never seen then in a width greater than 7 inches; I'd like at least an 8" for some decent 60-series meat.
try that again with the jackstand under the axle. you might find some interference problems at the front inside of the wheelwell and also with the bumpstop.
Well, I took everything under consideration and bought the Junk Yard Dogs. I don't really like the fact that EVERYBODY has them. But then again, why should that dissuade me if I like them? Just for everybody's info, look at the inside diameter of the rims you want (or have) prior to buying the Baer Track front disc brakes. There is NOT a whole lot of clearance there and a lot of 17" rims' internal diameters were too small. (Like the Sultan)
